Yashasvi Jaiswal Set for Another Chance; KL Rahul Not at No. 3: Ten Doeschate

India assistant coach Ryan ten Doeschate confirmed the team will make changes for the final ODI against Afghanistan to test combinations. Yashasvi Jaiswal is likely to get another opportunity despite failing in the previous match, while KL Rahul is unlikely to bat at No. 3. Fast bowler Arshdeep Singh may be rested after impressive performances in the first two games. Nitish Kumar Reddy is also in contention to return to the playing XI for the series finale in Chennai.

Yashasvi to get another chance, KL Rahul unlikely at No. 3: Ten Doeschate ahead of 3rd ODI against Afghanistan

Chennai, June 19

India's assistant coach Ryan ten Doeschate confirmed that the team will make a few changes for the final ODI against Afghanistan as part of its plan to test different combinations and provide opportunities to all squad members.

Doeschate said fast bowler Arshdeep Singh is likely to be rested after impressive performances in the first two matches, while India could bring back an additional spinner.

Ten Doeschate indicated that KL Rahul is unlikely to bat at No. 3, with the team keen to give Yashasvi Jaiswal another opportunity despite his failure in the previous game.

He also suggested that Nitish Kumar Reddy is in contention to return to the playing XI after missing the last match.

"We will be making a few changes from the first two games. I think part of the brief coming into the series was that we wanted to try a few different combinations and give everyone a fair share of games. Someone like Arshdeep has bowled very well in the first two games; he can probably take a rest tomorrow and save up one of the batters. One of the batters will miss out tomorrow, and we'll go back to playing one of the new spinners," Doeschate told the reporters. "But no, I don't think KL will bat three tomorrow. I think we want to have a good look at Yashasvi as well. Obviously, he didn't get runs in the last game, so he'll probably get another go, I would have thought. Maybe with the combination, we need to look at Nitish again. Unfortunately, he couldn't play in the last game, but he needs to start in as well," he added.

Team India will be playing the final ODI against Afghanistan at Chennai on Saturday, with the series 2-0 in favour of India already.

Good to see management thinking long-term. But resting Arshdeep after such good performances? Hope this doesn't break his rhythm. And yes, give Jaiswal another go - he's special. 🏏

Honestly, I think KL Rahul is being unfairly treated. He scored in the first match and now they're moving him around. Either let him open or bat at 4 consistently. This chopping and changing will hurt his confidence. But yes, Jaiswal deserves another chance too.

As someone who follows Indian cricket closely from the UK, this kind of rotation policy is exactly what we saw with England before their 2019 World Cup win. Smart planning. But they better not drop Jaiswal after just one failure - he's too talented.

Great to see Nitish Reddy being considered again. He brings that all-round dimension we desperately need. And playing an extra spinner in Chennai makes perfect sense. 😊

This management is a breath of fresh air. Earlier we would have played the same XI even after winning the series. Now they're thinking about the future. Jaiswal at 3, Gill at opening, Iyer at 4 - that's a solid top order for years. Just hope KL gets a proper role somewhere.
