AUS vs BAN Women's T20 WC: Match Time, Venue & Key Team News

Australia's selection dilemma looms as they consider pacer Megan Schutt for the Headingley clash against Bangladesh, given the venue may not favor spin. Bangladesh enter the match confident after a six-wicket win over Netherlands, driven by debutant Juairiya Ferdous' fifty. Australia have dominated past World Cup meetings, including a 2020 win via Alyssa Healy and Beth Mooney's opening stand. Both teams are unbeaten in Group 1, making this a key match for semi-final positioning.

Women's T20 WC: When and where to watch AUS vs BAN, know all details

Headingley, June 16

A shift in venue could force Australia's first major selection decision of the tournament when they meet Bangladesh at Headingley.

The defending champions relied exclusively on spin to dominate South Africa at Old Trafford, fielding Sophie Molineux, Ashleigh Gardner, Georgia Wareham and Alana King together. With Leeds expected to be less favourable for slow bowlers, experienced pacer Megan Schutt is firmly in contention to bolster the attack.

Bangladesh, meanwhile, have little reason to alter a winning formula. They opened their campaign with a controlled six-wicket victory over the Netherlands, with debutant opener Juairiya Ferdous laying the platform through a fluent fifty before Sharmin Akter Supta finished the chase.

The result continued Bangladesh's upward trajectory after recovering from consecutive defeats, as they won their final three matches in the tri-series involving Scotland and the Netherlands before the World Cup.

Australia, however, have been equally impressive. Before outclassing South Africa in Manchester, they completed a 3-0 clean sweep of the West Indies, their only recent setback being a home T20 series loss to India.

Past meetings also point towards Australian dominance. They comfortably defeated Bangladesh in Canberra during the 2020 edition after Alyssa Healy and Beth Mooney combined for a century opening stand. In 2023, Georgia Wareham's three-wicket haul restricted Bangladesh to 107 before Meg Lanning anchored a straightforward chase with an unbeaten 48.

With Australia leading Group 1 on net run rate and Bangladesh also off to a winning start, both teams have the opportunity to strengthen their positions before the competition enters its decisive phase.

As an Indian fan, I'm loving how competitive women's T20 has become globally. Bangladesh beating Netherlands was a great start for them. But Australia with their spin quartet is just deadly - they literally destroyed South Africa. Megan Schutt might not even be needed! Though I wonder if they'll rest one spinner for the pacer at Headingley?

Interesting to see Australia relying so heavily on spin. In subcontinental conditions that would be smart, but in Leeds? Bit risky. Bangladesh though - their recovery after those consecutive defeats shows real character. Nigar Sultana's captaincy has been underrated. This could be closer than people think!

Honestly I think the media hypes Australia too much. Yes they beat West Indies 3-0 but our Indian team also beat them in a T20 series recently at home. Bangladesh have improved a lot - remember they beat India in the Asia Cup? My money's on a close contest. At least the timing (3 PM IST) is perfect for us Indian viewers! 🏏

Great to see women's cricket getting this coverage! 🇮🇳 One small disappointment though - Star Sports should have more pre-match analysis shows for women's tournaments. The coverage feels rushed compared to men's matches. But still, can't complain too much when we get to watch world-class players like Ash Gardner and Beth Mooney for free on TV!

As someone who follows both men's and women's cricket, I'm impressed by Australia's depth. They can bench a world-class pacer like Schutt and still dominate with spin. But Bangladesh's debutant Ferdous deserves special mention - scoring a fifty on World Cup debut
