"The decision taken under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi is among the most important of this century. - CM Mohan Yadav"

Indore, April 14

Emphasising the growing role of women in nation-building, Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Yadav on Tuesday said that the Nari Shakti Vandan Adhiniyam, commonly known as the Women's Reservation Act, will open new avenues for women's participation in governance and policymaking.

Addressing an event - the Nari Shakti Vandan Conference - organised at the Lata Mangeshkar Auditorium in Indore, the Chief Minister said, "The decision taken under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi is among the most important of this century. It will ensure that women have a stronger voice in the country's democratic framework."

Highlighting the significance of the legislation, he said that the Act provides for 33 per cent reservation for women in the Lok Sabha and State Legislative Assemblies, which will lead to more inclusive and balanced decision-making.

"This step will not only empower women politically but also strengthen the foundation of democracy," he added.

The Chief Minister said that consistent policy decisions in recent years reflect Prime Minister Narendra Modi's commitment to women's welfare and dignity.

He noted that initiatives aimed at safeguarding women's rights have contributed to their growing confidence and participation in public life.

Linking the move to India's broader development vision, Yadav said the increased representation of women will be crucial in achieving the goal of a developed nation by 2047.

He also invoked the ideals of B. R. Ambedkar, stating that the Act carries forward his vision of equality and equal opportunity.

The event witnessed participation from a large number of women, including members of self-help groups, entrepreneurs, and representatives from cultural and social sectors.

Exhibitions showcasing products made by women's groups were also organised, reflecting their growing contribution to economic activity.

BJP MLA Malini Gaur addressing the event on this occasion said the Act would mark a turning point by ensuring that women are not just beneficiaries of policies but active contributors to decision-making processes.

Good move on paper, but the real test is implementation. Will it be just wives and daughters of existing politicians filling these seats, or will genuine women leaders from grassroots get a chance? Hope it leads to real empowerment, not just tokenism.

As someone who has worked in development sectors in MP, this is encouraging. Women's self-help groups are already powerhouses of local economy. Giving them a direct say in policy can accelerate rural development tremendously. The exhibition part of the event sounds fantastic!

Connecting this to Babasaheb Ambedkar's vision is apt. He was a firm believer in representation as a tool for justice. If this leads to more inclusive laws on education, safety, and healthcare, it will be a game-changer for the nation's progress.

Finally! My mother always says the *aangan* (courtyard) and the *sansad* (parliament) should have the same voice. This law can make that a reality. Hope they also focus on training and preparing women candidates, not just reserving seats. The journey is just beginning.

Respectfully, while the intent is good, I worry about the delay. The Act was passed, but the reservation will come into effect much later. For true 'Nari Shakti', we need to see action now. Let's hope all parties support this beyond political speeches.
