"Will work together, defeat anti-Bharat DMK alliance": BJP's Piyush Goyal after AMMK joins NDA in Tamil Nadu

BJP's Piyush Goyal welcomes AMMK's TTV Dhinakaran back to NDA, pledging to defeat the DMK government in upcoming Tamil Nadu elections.

"We will all work together and defeat the anti-Bharat DMK alliance. - Piyush Goyal"

Chennai, January 21

Bharatiya Janata Party Tamil Nadu election in-charge Piyush Goyal on Wednesday welcomed AMMK chief TTV Dhinakaran back into the NDA, saying the alliance will work together to defeat the "anti-Bharat DMK" government in the state, which heads into Assembly elections this year.

Goyal described the DMK government as "corrupt and incompetent" and accused it of attacking the people of Tamil Nadu and Tamil pride.

He highlighted the NDA's focus on good governance, social justice, opportunities for youth, and the promotion of the Tamil language and culture.

Addressing the press conference in Chennai, Goyal said, "I am honoured and delighted that my good friend and senior leader TTV Dhinakaran has decided to come back to the NDA family."

"In the NDA, AIADMK leader Edappadi K Palaniswami, Anbumani Ramadoss and other colleagues are all committed to removing this corrupt and incompetent DMK government, which is attacking the people of TN and Tamil pride. We will all work together and defeat the anti-Bharat DMK alliance. NDA alliance will provide good leadership, good governance and social justice for sisters and fathers of Tamil Nadu and good opportunities for the youth of Tamil Nadu. We will ensure that the Tamil language and culture go all over the world," he said.

Earlier today Amma Makkal Munnetra Kazhagam (AMMK) General Secretary TTV Dhinakaran met with Goyal. The meeting comes after the announcement that the AMMK would join the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) in the State.

Meanwhile, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will hold a public meeting at Maduranthakam in Tamil Nadu's Chengalpattu district on January 23, as the BJP intensifies efforts ahead of the State assembly elections.

The NDA led by AIADMK and the BJP in Tamil Nadu will look to defeat the ruling DMK-Congress alliance. The election will feature a triangular contest after actor-turned-politician Vijay has launched his party, Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK), and is eyeing the top spot.

Tamil Nadu is scheduled to hold Assembly elections in the first half of 2026, and political activity in the state is intensifying as parties roll out their campaign strategies and manifestos.

As a Tamilian, I'm tired of this "anti-Bharat" vs "pro-Bharat" narrative. Can we please talk about actual issues? Jobs, water crisis, infrastructure? 🤦‍♀️ This feels like the same old political drama with new characters.

TTV Dhinakaran coming back to NDA is a masterstroke. His party has a decent vote share. With AIADMK, BJP, and now AMMK together, they can give DMK a real fight. 2026 will be very interesting!

Promoting Tamil language and culture globally is a good point. But will they actually deliver? So many promises are made before elections. I want to see a concrete plan for youth employment and women's safety.

Watching from outside India, the political landscape in Tamil Nadu seems incredibly complex. The entry of Vijay's party makes it a three-cornered fight. Hope the focus remains on governance and not just rhetoric.

Respectfully, calling the state government "anti-Bharat" is a bit much. They may have differences, but that doesn't make them anti-national. We should debate policies, not question patriotism. The alliance needs to rise above this kind of language.
