"We are going to win. - Agnimitra Paul"

New Delhi, April 23

As voting was underway across 16 districts in the first phase of West Bengal elections, BJP candidate for Asansol South Assembly constituency, Agnimitra Paul, expressed confidence and said, "We are going to win."

Speaking to IANS, she said, "The people of Bengal have already decided that they do not want this government. We are saying they will use bombs and cut the electricity. A day before yesterday, they published a survey that Agnimitra is getting fewer votes to build a mindset in people's minds that she is losing -- why vote for her? I caught that bundle of paper with the information published. Such misleading words can only be done by Trinamool Congress."

She further alleged irregularities and raised concerns over the conduct of the polls, saying, "The allegation is that the TMC party is acting like a criminal and goon party. Many outsiders have come in as well; I have this information. Many goons have come from different places. A major goon from Kharagpur named Nadeem has also arrived. We are taking names. The Election Commission should look into all this. We want a free and fair election."

Separately, BJP leader Dilip Ghosh said, "The issue that we were talking about earlier, PM Narendra Modi has solved it in the last 10 years. The rest of the issues will also be solved gradually. Now, the BJP government has to be formed in Bengal. Bengal has to be brought on the path of development."

Polling is underway across 152 Assembly constituencies spread over 16 districts in the first phase of the West Bengal elections, which began at 7 a.m. on Thursday. Voters were seen queuing up early at several polling stations, indicating strong participation in the opening hours.

The Election Commission has deployed a record 2,407 companies of Central Armed Police Forces to ensure peaceful polling. A two-stage verification process is being followed for voters at polling stations, with tight security arrangements in sensitive areas.

While most constituencies reported smooth voting in the early hours, there were isolated reports of EVM malfunctioning at some booths.

The second phase of polling for the remaining 142 seats will be held on April 29, with counting scheduled for May 4.

These are very serious allegations about outsiders and goons. If true, the Election Commission must take strict action immediately! Every vote must be protected. 🙏

The high voter turnout is the real story here. People are coming out in numbers, which is fantastic for democracy. Forget the political noise, the people's mandate will be clear.

As a Bengali, I just want peace and progress. We've seen enough violence in past elections. The heavy CAPF deployment is reassuring. Hope this phase passes without any major incident.

Observing from outside, the claims about fake surveys and psychological tactics are interesting. It shows how modern election warfare works. The EC's role is more crucial than ever.

Dilip Ghosh's point about issues being solved in the last 10 years is what resonates with many. If people feel their lives have improved, that's the biggest factor. Development vs. populism - the classic Bengal battle.

Isolated EVM malfunctions are worrying but hopefully they were fixed quickly. We need 100% technical reliability to maintain trust in the process. Fingers crossed for a smooth remaining phase!
