Vishnu Manchu on 1 year of Kannappa: A journey that tested me in every possible way

Mumbai, June 27

It has been a year since Vishnu Manchu's epic devotional drama 'Kannappa' reached the audience.

Marking the special occasion, Vishnu Manchu penned a heartfelt note on social media, looking back at the fulfilling journey, which he claims ended up testing him in every way possible.

He wrote on the photo-sharing app, "One year ago today, Kannappa found its way to all of you. (Red heart emoji) Some films entertain. Some films change you. Kannappa did both for me. It was a journey of faith, sacrifice, and belief. A journey that tested me in every possible way and gave me memories I will carry for a lifetime. (sic)"

Vishnu Manchu further expressed his gratitude to the viewers for keeping the momentum for "Kannappa" going long after its release.

"To everyone who watched it in theatres, discovered it later on OTT, celebrated it, critiqued it, and kept talking about it... thank you. Your love has kept Kannappa alive far beyond its release. A year later, my heart is still full. Har Har Mahadev. (folded hands emoji)," concluded the post.

Made under the direction of Mukesh Kumar Singh, the script for the drama has been provided by Vishnu Manchu himself.

Backed by Vishnu Machu's father Mohan Babu, the project has been inspired by the legend of Kannappa in the Hindu mythology, a devotee of Lord Shiva who sacrificed his eyes.

Produced under the banner of AVA Entertainment, along with 24 Frames Factory 'Kannappa', features Vishnu Manchu in the title role, with Mohanlal, Prabhas, Akshay Kumar, Kajal Aggarwal, Preity Mukhundhan, Mohan Babu, R. Sarathkumar, Madhoo, Mukesh Rishi, Devaraj, Arpit Ranka, and Aishwariyaa Bhaskaran playing pivotal characters.

'Kannappa' which was released in theatres on 27 June 2025, opened to mixed reviews. The ambitious projects also failed to perform at the box office.

Mixed reviews and box office failure, but the man is still grateful. That's the mark of a true artist. Kannappa's story is legendary, and it's good to see it on screen, even if execution could have been better.

The cast was incredible with Mohanlal, Prabhas, and Akshay Kumar! But sometimes even big names can't save a film if the script isn't tight. Vishnu's honesty about the journey is refreshing though. Better luck next time! 💪

I watched it on OTT and honestly, the heart was there but it felt rushed. The legend of Kannappa deserves a more patient telling. Still, respect for putting in the effort. Har Har Mahadev! 🕉️

Vishnu Manchu's note shows a lot of grace. The film may not have been a commercial success, but it clearly touched many hearts. As they say in our culture, the journey is as important as the destination. Jai Mahadev! 🔱

I appreciate the sincerity, but respectfully, the comedy scenes felt out of place for such a serious devotional subject. Vishnu bhai should stick to the core emotion next time, no need for commercial masala in a legend like this.
