"A very special day": Karun Chandhok after driving Sebastian Vettel's Red Bull R8 at Buddh International Circuit

Former F1 driver Karun Chandhok drives Sebastian Vettel's 2012 title-winning Red Bull RB8 at Buddh International Circuit, sparking Indian GP revival hopes.

"Awesome day at the Buddh International Circuit! - Karun Chandhok"

Greater Noida, February 27

Former Indian Formula 1 driver Karun Chandhok described driving Sebastian Vettel's Red Bull R8 at the Buddh International Circuit on Thursday as an unforgettable experience, calling it a "very special day."

The legendary RB8, driven by Sebastian Vettel, won the F1 Indian Grand Prix in Delhi NCR back in 2012, en route to winning a historic World Drivers' and Constructors Championship double.

In an X post, Karun Chandhok wrote, "Awesome day at the Buddh International Circuit! I never thought that I would get a chance to drive an F1 car in India again, so a big thanks to @redbullindia for a very special day in Sebastian Vettel's 2012 Indian GP - and Championship winning - RB8."

The Buddh International Circuit, which hosted its first Formula 1 Indian Grand Prix in 2011, holds a special place in Indian motorsport history. Driving Vettel's championship-winning Red Bull R8 offered Chandhok a rare opportunity to relive the legacy of one of F1's most iconic cars while celebrating his connection to his home track.

Recently, there have been reports regarding the government considering bringing back Formula 1 to the Buddh International Circuit, almost thirteen years after the last race was held at the track.

Sports Ministry sources had said earlier this month that the Formula 1 race in Greater Noida could soon make a comeback. Union Sports Minister Mansukh Mandaviya recently visited the Buddh International Circuit (BIC) in Greater Noida, signalling potential plans to revive the Indian Grand Prix.

What a brilliant moment for Karun and for Indian motorsport fans. The BIC is a world-class facility, it's such a shame it's been sitting idle for so long. F1's return would be a huge boost for sports tourism and the local economy in NCR.

Amazing! But let's be honest, the reason F1 left was the bureaucracy and tax issues. If they are serious about bringing it back, they need to sort that out first. Otherwise, it will be another false start. The potential is massive though.

So happy for Karun! He's such a great ambassador for Indian racing. Watching him on TV commentary, you can feel his passion. Driving Vettel's championship-winning car on home soil must have been a dream come true. More such events, please!

The 2012 Indian GP was the first F1 race I ever watched. Vettel's dominance was something else. Seeing the RB8 back on track brings back those memories. F1's return would be brilliant, but ticket prices need to be reasonable for the average fan.

As an F1 fan living abroad, I attended the 2011 race. The atmosphere at BIC was electric. India deserves to host a Grand Prix. The circuit is challenging and the fanbase is passionate. Hope the logistics and financials are worked out this time.
