Varun reveals how father David Dhawan roasted him for his smile
Mumbai, June 8
Bollywood actor Varun Dhawan, who is receiving positive response to his recently released film 'Hai Jawani Toh Ishq Hona Hai', has shared how his father David Dhawan roasted him. The director also wanted the audience to enjoy the joke at his son's expense by using the joke in his film but eventually didn't use it.
The actor recently appeared on comedian Tanmay Bhat's show, and spoke about being made fun of because of his side smile.
When asked if he anticipated being trolled for his smile, Varun said, "No, I thought I would be made fun of because of something else. I never thought anyone would make fun of this. I thought there are so many things (for which he could be trolled) like my voice, for instance. I would literally sound like an 8-year-old girl, initially. That's what my brother used to tell me, when I made my debut, I thought voice, height, bad acting, etc. I didn't think the smile was so bad".
However, the actor turned out to be a good sport, as he appreciated the jokes around his smile, as he said, "I think after a while, it became funny. It actually became funny for me. I found the biscuit one very funny".
He then went on to reveal how his father came up with the idea to make fun of his smile.
"There's a joke in my new film, which my dad wanted to do on me. But then eventually he didn't do it. It was supposed to be a scene where I have kids, and their smile is same as mine. I was like, 'Why do you want to do that?. He said, 'No, no, let's do it. People will laugh at you", he added.

Honestly, I don't get why people troll his smile. It's unique and endearing. At least he's not like those actors who have the same rehearsed smile in every scene. Varun always brings energy to his roles. And David Dhawan's idea to use that joke in the film was brilliant though! Shame they didn't keep it.
Varun's self-awareness is refreshing. Most stars would throw a fit over such jokes. But he took it sportingly and even appreciated the memes. That's the mark of a true entertainer. His dad roasting him is just too cute. Family banter is the best banter! 😜
I actually think his smile is one of his better features. But what I find interesting is how Bollywood actors today are more open to being roasted. Earlier days, such things would have caused major drama. Varun's approach is much healthier. Although, I wish he wouldn't focus so much on 'what others think' - just be yourself, yaar!
As someone who isn't Indian, I find this whole culture of roasting in Bollywood fascinating. Varun seems like a really down-to-earth guy. His dad David Dhawan is a legend, and having him roast his own son is next-level comedy. I'd love to see that scene in the film actually. Missed opportunity for some good humor.
Varun's voice comparison to an 8-year-old girl was hilarious! 😂 He's so honest about his insecurities. That's what makes him relatable. But seriously, why do we troll actors for everything? They're humans too, yaar. Let's
