Delhi-Dehradun Expressway Traffic Diverted Near Dat Kali Temple for Repairs

Traffic from Dehradun to Delhi has been diverted to the old route near Dat Kali Temple in Uttar Pradesh due to ongoing patchwork on the expressway. Traffic Circle Officer Ankit Kandari confirmed that the diversion will remain until repairs are completed, while traffic from Delhi to Dehradun continues normally. Meanwhile, heavy rainfall in Chamoli and Rudraprayag has caused the Alaknanda and Mandakini rivers to rise, though still below danger levels. Authorities have issued alerts for residents and advisories for pilgrims and tourists to stay away from riverbeds.

Uttarakhand: Traffic diverted on Delhi-Dehradun Expressway due to repair work

Dehradun, July 7

Traffic heading from Dehradun to Delhi has been diverted to the old route in Uttar Pradesh near the Dat Kali Temple stretch of the Dehradun-Delhi Expressway, Traffic Circle Officer Ankit Kandari said on Monday.

Speaking exclusively to ANI, he explained that the diversion has been put in place due to ongoing patchwork on a section of the expressway. Kandari added that normal traffic movement on the expressway will resume once the repair work is completed.

"Regarding the Delhi-Dehradun Expressway, the traffic coming from Delhi towards Dehradun is moving normally on its side. However, the traffic going from Delhi to Dehradun has been diverted to the old road by the Uttar Pradesh authorities. This diversion is due to some ongoing patchwork. As soon as the patchwork is completed, traffic will resume regularly on the expressway."

Meanwhile, following continuous heavy rainfall in the higher regions of Chamoli and Rudraprayag districts, the Alaknanda and Mandakini rivers, along with their tributaries, are in spate, officials said on Saturday.

The water level of the Alaknanda River was recorded at 623.10 meters above sea level. While the water level is rising daily due to the persistent rains, authorities stated that it currently remains below the danger mark.

In view of the rising water levels, the Disaster Management Department and local administration have been issuing continuous alerts to residents living along the riverbanks to ensure their safety.

Furthermore, a strong advisory was issued for pilgrims and tourists visiting the region, urging them to stay away from the riverbeds and exercise caution.

These diversions are a headache for daily commuters. The old road through UP villages is narrow and gets jammed. Why not repair during night hours? Anyway. On a different note, flooding in Uttarakhand is a yearly tragedy - we need better drainage infrastructure in these Himalayan towns.

Good that authorities are proactive about repairs and issuing flood alerts. But why always divert to old routes without proper signboards? Many drivers from Delhi get confused. Also, pilgrims to Char Dham should definitely avoid riverbeds - the weather has been crazy this July. 🌧️

Driving to Dehradun this weekend, glad I checked the news. The diversion will add 30 mins at least. But honestly, I'd rather take the old road than risk a bumpy expressway. Hope the Monsoon doesn't worsen things - those Alaknanda levels are scary!

As someone who travels to Rishikesh often, these announcements are helpful but come too late sometimes. The patchwork should have been done before monsoon season. And the river flood warnings - they need to be more specific; just saying 'stay away from riverbeds' is vague for tourists.

This is routine every monsoon - rains cause damage, repairs divert traffic, and then everyone complains. But appreciate the TO talking to local officials. For those going to Haridwar or Rishikesh, better to take the train this month. Stay safe, Uttarakhand! 🌊
