Urmila Matondkar, Sonali Bendre and Shriya Pilgaonkar step out for a 'play date'
Mumbai, May 23
Bollywood actresses Urmila Matondkar, Sonali Bendre and Shriya Pilgaonkar recently came together for a special Marathi theatre evening.
The actresses took to their respective social media accounts and shared glimpses from their memorable outing. The trio attended the Marathi play "Asen me nasen me" and were all praise for the performances and storytelling.
Sharing pictures from the evening, Sonali Bendre wrote, "What a beautiful evening watching 'Asen Me Nasen Me'. Still thinking about the performances long after the curtains closed, especially @neenakulkarni, who was just extraordinary on stage. Huge congratulations to @amrutasubhash on such a confident and moving directorial debut, and to @sandeshkulkarni.small.s for writing something so layered, emotional and honest. @shubhangi.gokhale.18 amazing performance, just loved it! So much heart in one play."
Shriya Pilgaonkar also shared photos from the outing and captioned them, "What a privilege to watch such outstanding performances on stage." Further Marathi she wrote, that translated in English read, Amazing play. Asen Me Nasen Me Do watch. Congratulating the entire team from all my heart! @amrutasubhash @neenakulkarni @sandeshkulkarni.small.s @shubhangi.gokhale.18 Also loved this play date @ashesinwind @iamsonalibendre @urmilamatondkarofficial"
The pictures shared online by the Maharashtrian beauties featured a cheerful group selfie and backstage candid moments.
In one picture, Sonali Bendre, Urmila Matondkar and Shriya Pilgaonkar were seen smiling brightly alongside the play's stars Neena Kulkarni, Shubhangi Gokhale, Amruta Subhash and other creators of the play.
Urmila was seen dressed in a casual pastel t-shirt paired with denims and a printed bucket hat, while Sonali opted for a breezy green outfit with glasses and a scarf. Shriya looked elegant in a green top and jeans.
Talking about Urmila Matondkar and Sonali Bendre, the two heroines have both been among Bollywood's top actresses from the 1990s era, but surprisingly they never shared screen space together in a film.
For the uninitiated, Urmila Matondkar began her acting journey as a child artiste in Shekhar Kapur's "Masoom" and later went on to deliver top notch performances in films like "Rangeela," "Satya," "Kaun," "Bhoot," "Pyaar Tune Kya Kiya," "Ek Hasina Thi," and "Jungle."
Sonali Bendre, meanwhile, made her Bollywood debut with "Aag" opposite Govinda and went on to star in popular films including "Sarfarosh," "Hum Saath-Saath Hain," "Major Saab," "Duplicate," "Diljale," "Zakhm," and "Kal Ho Naa Ho."
Shriya Pilgaonkar, daughter of veteran actors Sachin Pilgaonkar and Supriya Pilgaonkar, has carved her own space in the entertainment industry with projects across films, web shows and theatre.
She made her acting debut in the Marathi film "Ekulti Ek" and later gained nationwide recognition with web series like "Mirzapur," "Taaza Khabar," and "Guilty Minds."
Shriya and Sonali have shared screen space in the OTT series, "The Broken News."

It's lovely to see these actresses supporting regional theatre! But I wish the article focused more on the play 'Asen Me Nasen Me' and its story. The performances by Neena Kulkarni ji and others deserve more spotlight than just the star sighting. Still, great to see the Marathi film industry getting this attention!
Urmila ji in Rangeela... what a movie! And Sonali Bendre in Sarfarosh was iconic. They embody the 90s Bollywood charm. This play date feels like a trip down memory lane for us 90s kids. So proud they're keeping Marathi culture alive! 🇮🇳
Honest question: is this news or just rich people hanging out? There's actual problems in Maharashtra - drought, unemployment, farmers' issues. But the media wastes space on celebrities watching a play. Purely entertainment, but let's not pretend this is important.
Shriya Pilgaonkar is such a gem! She's made her own identity beyond being Sachin Pilgaonkar's daughter. Loved her in Mirzapur and Taaza Khabar. And seeing her bond with Urmila and Sonali is so cute - all Maharashtrian girls supporting each other! ❤️
Nice to see some positive news for a change. The play must be really good if Sonali Bendre is still thinking about it after the curtains closed. Bollywood stars going to theatre shows is a great trend - it encourages more people to watch live performances. Kudos!
