"The Iranian embassy's unacceptable and inflammatory comments on social media - UK Foreign Office"

London, April 28

The United Kingdom's Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office has summoned the Ambassador of the Islamic Republic of Iran to the United Kingdom on Tuesday.

The Iranian ambassador was summoned by Hamish Falconer, the Minister for the Middle East, in response to the Iranian embassy's unacceptable and inflammatory comments on social media.

Falconer made it clear that these actions and comments were completely unacceptable and that the Embassy must cease any form of communication that could be interpreted as encouraging violence in the United Kingdom or internationally, the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office of the United Kingdom stated.

The office also highlighted that the brutal and repressive regime of Iran will continue to be called out by the government for its malign activities on United Kingdom soil, its reckless attacks against the United Kingdom's allies in the Gulf, and its violence against its own people.

The statement also added that the United Kingdom government is clear that protecting national security remains its top priority and that it will take all measures necessary to protect the British people.

The Minister of the United Kingdom did not specify which of the embassy's social media comments it was referring to.

Last month, the Minister summoned the ambassador in response to two individuals being charged with providing assistance to a foreign intelligence service.

The summons followed the charging of two individuals, one Iranian national and one British-Iranian dual national, under the National Security Act on suspicion of providing assistance to a foreign intelligence service, the ministry stated.

It also emphasised that national security remains the top priority and that threats posed by Iran and those who do its bidding are taken extremely seriously.

The statement added that the government will take all measures necessary to protect the British people, including exposing Iran's reckless and destabilising actions at home and abroad.

Finally someone is holding Iran accountable for their destabilizing actions. They've been meddling in Gulf affairs and threatening allies for too long. UK is right to call them out.

Jeez, India should take a leaf from UK's book when it comes to dealing with countries that spread hate online. Social media is a mess nowadays with state-sponsored trolling. But let's be real - UK's own track record in the Middle East isn't exactly spotless either.

Iran's regime has been causing trouble for decades - from their nuclear program to proxy wars in Yemen and Syria. UK should definitely be firm. But I hope they remember their own actions in Iraq and Afghanistan too. Consistency matters, na.

As an Australian, I'm glad UK is taking a stand. Iran's behavior in the Gulf affects global oil prices and shipping lanes. This isn't just about social media - it's about security. The two individuals charged under National Security Act show how serious this is.

I wonder what exactly the embassy posted that got them summoned. Social media diplomacy is tricky - it can amplify tensions. India deals with this too with Pakistan's official accounts spreading misinformation. UK should be transparent about what was said.
