Two-year-old girl dies after falling into Lake Pichola from hotel window in Rajasthan's Udaipur
Jaipur, July 25
A two-year-old girl died after falling into Lake Pichola from a window of Hotel Jagat Niwas in Rajasthan's Udaipur on Saturday, police said.
The child was rushed to a hospital after being pulled out of the lake but was declared dead by doctors.
The girl's family was on vacation in Udaipur when the child slipped into the lake during breakfast at the lakeside hotel.
According to Assistan Sub-Inspector (ASI) Ishaq Mohammad of Ghantaghar Police Station, Sonu Singh Tanwar (34), a resident of Asola in Delhi's Fatehpur Beri, had arrived in Udaipur with his wife Monica (29) and their two-year-old daughter Dhimahi for a family vacation.
"The family from Delhi came to Udaipur on a holiday. As the father and mother went to have their breakfast, the little girl slipped from the window and fell down," ASI Mohammad said.
The family was staying at Hotel Jagat Niwas, located on the banks of Lake Pichola.
Police said the family had gone to the hotel's second-floor dining area for breakfast on Saturday morning.
While the parents moved ahead to collect food, the toddler reportedly slipped through a window behind them and fell into the lake.
Hotel staff and bystanders immediately rushed to rescue the child and pulled her out of the water.
She was taken to a nearby hospital, where doctors declared her dead.
Following the incident, the body was shifted to the mortuary at Maharana Bhupal Hospital for post-mortem examination.
After the post-mortem, the body was handed over to the family.
The bereaved parents left for New Delhi in an ambulance with their daughter's body.
Police have registered the case and are examining the circumstances surrounding the incident.
Further investigation is underway.

This is so terrible. Parents need to be extra careful with toddlers in unfamiliar places—one moment of distraction can change everything. But also, hotels should install window grills or safety locks. Deeply saddened.

So careless on part of the parents. I'm sorry for their loss but you simply can't take your eyes off a toddler near an open window by a lake. Hotels should also have warning signs or barriers. This is a tragic lesson.
