Seoul, April 28

Donald Trump Jr., the eldest son of US President Donald Trump, is currently visiting South Korea, sources said Tuesday.

Trump Jr. arrived here earlier in the day for a four-day trip, according to the sources familiar with the matter. His visit is said to be for business purposes.

It marks Trump Jr.'s second visit to South Korea since President Trump began his second term last year, Yonhap news agency reported.

His latest visit comes amid heightened global uncertainty stemming from the ongoing Middle East crisis and a number of pending issues between Seoul and Washington, including South Korea's USD 350 billion investment pledge to the United States and the US's restrictions on intelligence sharing about North Korea.

Trump's son previously visited South Korea in April last year for a two-day trip at the invitation of Shinsegae Group Chairman Chung Yong-jin.

At that time, he held a series of closed-door meetings with top Korean business leaders, including Hanwha Group Vice Chairman Kim Dong-kwan, to discuss potential partnerships in the shipbuilding, defence, and energy sectors.

South Korean business circles asked Chung to facilitate Trump Jr.'s visit as a way to establish contact with the Trump administration, according to the sources.

Business leaders from the semiconductor, automobile, energy, steelmaking and defence industries have reportedly expressed interest in holding one-on-one meetings with him.

Chung and Trump Jr. are known to be close.

During his latest trip, Trump Jr. plans to attend a concert marking the release of the debut album of Chung's wife, flutist Han Jee-hee, on Wednesday, according to retail industry sources.

Chung is known for his ties to Trump Jr., having been invited to the U.S. president's Mar-a-Lago estate in Palm Beach. Chung and his wife also attended Trump's presidential inauguration early last year.

This feels like a business trip disguised as diplomacy. A concert for a debut album? Classic Trump family strategy - mix business with pleasure. Not sure how this helps resolve the intelligence sharing issues with North Korea though.

It's amusing how South Korean business leaders are using Trump Jr. as a backchannel to the White House. Reminds me of how we do business in India too - personal connections matter a lot. But honestly, this sort of lobbying through family members doesn't sit right with me. 😐

Nothing wrong with business ties between nations. India also benefits from such connections - look at our deals with the US! But I hope this isn't just about the Chung family's personal interests. The $350 billion pledge needs more transparency.

South Korea playing the networking game hard. But let's be real - sending Trump's son as a business envoy while there's an intelligence sharing freeze with North Korea? That's peak irony. Congress should investigate this kind of family business dealings.

The debut album concert angle is so bizarre yet so typical Trump. I'm curious if India's business leaders would ever try such a move with visiting dignitaries. Ambani hosting a concert for Modi? That's already happened! 😄
