Trump extends pause on strikes on Iran's energy infra for 10 more days till April 6 amid talks

US President Donald Trump extends the halt on strikes against Iran's energy infrastructure for 10 more days, citing productive diplomatic talks.

"Talks are ongoing and... they are going very well - Donald Trump"

Washington DC, March 27

US President Donald Trump on Thursday stated that he is extending the pause on strikes targeting Iran's energy infrastructure for an additional 10 days, until Monday, April 6, 2026, as part of the ongoing diplomatic talks between the sides amid the conflict in West Asia.

In a post on Truth Social, the US President claims that the announcement comes as per a "request" from the Iranian Government. He further stated that the negotiations with Tehran were "going very well".

He further slammed the media for reporting "erroneous statements" contradicting the US president.

"As per Iranian Government request, please let this statement serve to represent that I am pausing the period of Energy Plant destruction by 10 Days to Monday, April 6, 2026, at 8 P.M., Eastern Time. Talks are ongoing and, despite erroneous statements to the contrary by the Fake News Media, and others, they are going very well," the post read.

Earlier on Monday, Trump announced that he had instructed the US Department of War to delay any military action against Iranian power plants and energy sites for five days, citing ongoing diplomatic engagements with Tehran amid escalating tensions in West Asia.

In a post on Truth Social, Trump said the United States and Iran had held "very good and productive conversations" over the past two days aimed at resolving hostilities in the region.

He added that the decision to pause strikes was based on the "tenor and tone" of the discussions, which he described as "in-depth, detailed, and constructive". Trump further stated that the conversations will continue through the week.

"I am pleased to report that the United States of America, and the country of Iran, have had, over the last two days, very good and productive conversations regarding a complete and total resolution of our hostilities in the Middle East," the post read.

"Based on the tenor and tone of these in depth, detailed, and constructive conversations, which will continue throughout the week, I have instructed the Department of War to postpone any and all military strikes against Iranian power plants and energy Infrastructure for a five day period, subject to the success of the ongoing meetings and discussions. Thank you for your attention to this matter!" it added.

The development comes as diplomatic engagements between Washington and Tehran continue amid the conflict in West Asia, following US-Israel joint military strikes on Iran on February 28, which led to the death of 86-year-old Iran's Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, after which Tehran, in retaliation, targeted Israel and US assets in several Gulf countries, causing disruption in the waterways and affecting international energy markets and global economic stability.

Due to the conflict in the region, Iran has virtually closed the Strait of Hormuz.

Trump's policy seems to change every other day. One moment it's maximum pressure, next it's "productive conversations". This unpredictability is bad for global stability. We need consistent leadership from world powers, not this drama.

Good that they are talking. War helps no one. India has always advocated for dialogue and peaceful resolution of conflicts. Our foreign policy of non-alignment and talking to all sides is the right approach in such complex situations.

The article mentions the disruption to waterways affecting energy markets. This is a stark reminder of how interconnected the world is. A conflict thousands of miles away can lead to fuel price hikes here in India. Diplomacy is crucial.

While I'm glad for the pause, the whole situation feels like a high-stakes game. Calling it the "Department of War" again? And announcing it on social media... It lacks the gravity such serious geopolitics deserves. Hope our government is in close touch with both sides to protect Indian interests and the large diaspora in the Gulf.

The focus should be on de-escalation. The region is already a tinderbox. Any miscalculation can spiral out of control. India has good relations with many Gulf nations and Iran; perhaps we can play a quiet, constructive role behind the scenes.
