Tripura preparing blueprint for faster delivery of SC welfare schemes: Sudhangshu Das

Agartala, July 2

The Tripura Government is preparing a comprehensive blueprint to ensure the faster and more effective delivery of Central and State welfare schemes to Scheduled Caste communities across the state, SC Welfare Minister Sudhangshu Das announced on Wednesday after chairing a state-level review meeting and later addressing a press conference at the Civil Secretariat in Agartala.

The Minister said the government is committed to improving the socio-economic condition of the state's 34 Scheduled Caste communities by streamlining welfare programmes, strengthening coordination among departments, and ensuring timely benefits for eligible beneficiaries. He stressed that officials of the SC Welfare, Education, Rural Development and other departments must work proactively for the overall development of SC families and students.

Reviewing the implementation of key schemes, Das said the government is focusing on programmes such as PM-AJAY, Prime Minister Adarsh Gram Yojana, Mukhyamantri Tapashili Jati Bikash Yojana, scholarship schemes, hostel development and skill-based self-employment initiatives. He also proposed district-level workshops to improve awareness and implementation of the Mukhyamantri Tapashili Jati Bikash Yojana.

Highlighting the department's performance during the 2025-26 financial year, officials informed that over 45,000 SC students benefited from pre-matric and post-matric scholarships, while financial assistance was extended to students pursuing professional courses. The government also honoured 7,172 students with the Dr BR Ambedkar Memorial Merit Award.

The Minister said 1,928 beneficiaries received assistance under the Mukhyamantri Tapashili Jati Bikash Yojana for income-generating activities such as poultry farming, duck rearing and small businesses.

Development projects worth ₹72.78 crore are being implemented at Maharajganj Fish Market and selected water bodies, while 33 villages are being developed under PM-AJAY. He added that two SC girls' hostels have been completed, 119 teachers have been appointed in 32 hostels, and financial support has also been provided under the Inter-Caste Marriage Incentive Scheme.

Senior officials, including SC Welfare Secretary Deepa D Nair, Director-in-Charge Bhaswar Bhattacharya, district and sub-divisional welfare officers, and representatives of key departments attended the review meeting.

45,000 SC students getting scholarships is impressive, but what about quality of education in hostels? 119 teachers for 32 hostels sounds like barely 4 per hostel. We need more trained staff and better infrastructure, not just numbers on paper. The blueprint should address this gap seriously.

Good to see the Inter-Caste Marriage Incentive Scheme getting financial support! That's a progressive step towards breaking social barriers. But ₹72.78 crore for fish market and water bodies seems steep—hope there's proper monitoring so corruption doesn't eat into real development. Transparency is key.

Having grown up in a small village in Tripura, I know how many SC families miss out because they don't even know about these schemes. The district-level workshops are a great idea, but they need to happen in remote areas, not just district headquarters. Outreach in local dialects will make all the difference. 👏

PM-AJAY and Adarsh Gram Yojana have been around for years, but results are mixed. I hope Tripura's blueprint learns from past failures in other states—like delayed funds, ghost beneficiaries, and lack of accountability. A real-time dashboard for scheme implementation would help citizens track progress.

Honestly, every state makes these announcements, but ground reality is different. 1,928 beneficiaries under Mukhyamantri Yojana is a drop in the ocean for 34 communities. Need to scale up massively, especially for youth who want skill training for modern jobs, not just traditional trades.
