Tripura: Massive tree falls on Assam-Agartala NH near Barmura, traffic comes to standstill

The vehicular movement on the Assam-Agartala National Highway came to a complete halt after a massive tree collapsed onto the middle of the road near the Bankumari Temple in the Barmura area on Saturday.
The fallen tree completely blocked both sides of the highway, leaving hundreds of vehicles stranded and causing severe traffic congestion.
Commuters, including passengeBarmurars and transport operators, faced considerable inconvenience as the road remained impassable.
Upon receiving the information, local authorities and emergency personnel rushed to the spot and initiated efforts to remove the tree and restore normal traffic.
Speaking to ANI, the police official said, "Upon receiving information about the incident, we arrived at the scene immediately to cut the fallen tree and clear the road for traffic. The blocakge lasted for about half an hour. Although there was a slight delay in our arrival as we were patrolling another location at the time, we managed to clear the path and allow vehicles to pass. This incident occurred in the Barmura-Bankumari area."
The incident is believed to have been triggered by continuous rainfall and strong winds in the region.

Typical scene during monsoon in the Northeast 🙄. The NH is the lifeline for Tripura and this happens every year. Where is the proactive tree trimming? Why always wait for a crisis? Good that the police acted fast but they should have been patrolling right there given the weather warnings.

Bankumari Temple area is already narrow due to the hill on one side. Why isn't the NHAI widening the road and cutting dangerous trees? Every monsoon it's the same story. People heading to Agartala for medical emergencies must have suffered. The govt needs to prioritize this highway.
I remember driving through Barmura last monsoon and a branch fell just behind my car. These trees are massive and old. Nature's power is humbling. I'm just thankful no vehicle was crushed under it. The police team deserves credit for reaching despite patrolling elsewhere.
This is exactly why India needs better infrastructure maintenance. Continuous rain and wind are predictable - tree felling should be anticipated. But I'm impressed the clearance was done in 30 minutes. Let's hope this triggers some preventive action for the next storm.
