TN teacher eligibility 2nd test paper today; over 1.67 lakh candidates to appear at 613 centres

The second paper of the Tamil Nadu Teacher Eligibility Test will be conducted across the state on Sunday, with more than 1.67 lakh candidates expected to appear for the examination to determine eligibility for teaching positions in government and government-aided schools.
The examination is being conducted over two days by the Tamil Nadu Teachers Recruitment Board (TRB).
While Paper I was held on Saturday for candidates aspiring to become Secondary Grade Teachers, Paper II is meant for those seeking eligibility to teach graduate-level classes in government and aided schools.
According to the Teachers Recruitment Board, Paper II will be conducted at 613 examination centres spread across Tamil Nadu. A total of 1,67,743 candidates have registered to take the examination.
The test will be held under strict security arrangements, with officials monitoring the process to ensure a smooth and transparent conduct of the examination.
Paper I, conducted on Saturday, witnessed the participation of 61,386 candidates. The examination was held at 222 centres located in several districts, including Tirunelveli, Coimbatore, Mayiladuthurai and Ranipet, besides other parts of the state. The test commenced at 10 a.m. and concluded at 1 p.m.
Candidates with disabilities were provided an additional hour to complete the examination, in accordance with the prescribed guidelines.
The Teachers Recruitment Board had made special arrangements at examination centres to facilitate their participation.
The Tamil Nadu Teacher Eligibility Test is a mandatory qualification for candidates seeking appointment as teachers in government and government-aided schools.
While clearing the examination does not guarantee employment, it is one of the essential eligibility requirements for recruitment to teaching posts notified by the state government.
Authorities have advised candidates appearing for Sunday's examination to reach their allotted centres well in advance to complete verification procedures and avoid last-minute delays.
Entry into examination halls will be regulated according to the instructions issued by the Teachers Recruitment Board, and candidates have been directed to carry their hall tickets and valid identity proof.
Officials said elaborate arrangements have been made at all examination centres to ensure the smooth conduct of Paper II, which is expected to conclude the two-day statewide teacher eligibility examination.

I really hope these tests actually improve the quality of teaching in our schools. I have seen many teachers who clear exams but lack practical skills. The TRB should also focus on training, not just eligibility.

It is great to see special arrangements for disabled candidates. However, I wish the government would also focus on improving infrastructure in government schools. Even qualified teachers struggle without proper facilities. One step at a time!
