Chennai, May 12

In a significant bureaucratic reshuffle, the Tamil Nadu government on Tuesday ordered the transfer and posting of several senior Indian Administrative Service officers across key departments, including Finance, Revenue Administration, Tourism, and the Tamil Nadu State Marketing Corporation.

The orders were issued by Chief Secretary M. Sai Kumar in the name of the Governor.

According to the official notification, senior IAS officer N. Muruganandam, who has returned from leave, has been posted as Additional Chief Secretary and Commissioner of Revenue Administration and Disaster Management. He replaces P. Amudha, who had been holding additional charge of the post.

In another major administrative change, M.A. Siddique, who was serving as Additional Chief Secretary and Managing Director of Chennai Metro Rail Limited (CMRL), has been transferred and posted as Additional Chief Secretary, Finance Department. He succeeds T. Udhayachandran in the crucial portfolio.

The reshuffle also included changes in the Tourism and Cultural Affairs departments. Dr S. Swarna, who was serving as Principal Secretary and State Project Director of the Rashtriya Uchchatar Shiksha Abhiyan (RUSA), has been appointed Principal Secretary, Tourism, Culture and Religious Endowments Department. She replaces Dr K. Manivasan, who had been holding additional charge of the department.

In a key posting linked to the state-run liquor retail network, the government announced that the services of K. Nanthakumar, currently Registrar of Cooperative Societies, have been placed at the disposal of the Tamil Nadu State Marketing Corporation (TASMAC) for appointment as its Managing Director. He replaces T. Christuraj.

The government order further stated that the terms and conditions of deputation of Nanthakumar on foreign service would be governed in accordance with the provisions laid down in G.O. Ms No. 167, Public (Special-A) Department, dated February 21, 1994.

The reshuffle comes at a time when the newly formed Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK)-led government under Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay is undertaking a series of administrative changes following its assumption of office on Sunday.

Why is TASMAC always getting so much attention in every reshuffle? Managing liquor sales shouldn't be a top priority for a state government when education and healthcare are struggling. Bit disappointing to see this focus.

Interesting to see a new IAS officer taking over Revenue Administration right after the new CM's swearing-in. Hope N. Muruganandam can bring better disaster management coordination, especially with cyclone season approaching. Let's wait and watch 🙏

M.A. Siddique moving from CMRL to Finance Department - that's a huge shift! From metros to state budget management. Hope his experience with large projects helps streamline TN's finances. We need transparent budgeting and better fiscal discipline.

Seeing Dr S. Swarna move from education (RUSA) to tourism and culture is a smart move. She can bring academic rigour to preserving Tamil heritage sites. Hope she focuses on promoting lesser-known temples and historical places across TN. சிறப்பான மாற்றம்! 🙏

All these transfers show the new government is serious about administrative reforms. But I'm cautiously optimistic - we've seen reshuffles before that didn't change ground realities. Let's see if these IAS officers actually improve service delivery for common people like us.
