Timothee Chalamet, Selena Gomez to voice rocket scientists in alien-themed animated film 'Not Alone'

Washington DC, June 30

Illumination, the studio behind blockbuster franchises like 'Minions' and 'Sing', has released the trailer for its upcoming animated film 'Not Alone', featuring Hollywood stars Timothee Chalamet and Selena Gomez in lead voice roles, according to Variety.

The film marks Chalamet's debut in animation, with the actor voicing Joe, described as an "introverted rocket mechanic who lives a quiet life alone." Gomez plays Fran, a "brilliant astro-botanist who is developing the world's first-ever plant-fueled rocket."

According to the official synopsis, Joe and Fran are brought together to prepare for the inaugural launch of the revolutionary rocket, and "there are immediate sparks, but neither is particularly adept at romance." Matters get complicated when three tiny, unruly aliens take refuge in Joe's home. The aliens -- Dunk, Welly and Shirm -- are on the run across planets from an inept law enforcement officer named Zandro, and soon realise that Fran's rocket could be their ticket back home, as per the outlet.

The alien trio will be voiced by British comedic actors Rob Brydon, Diane Morgan and Jamie Demetriou. 'Ted Lasso' star Brett Goldstein will lend his voice to Officer Zandro. The supporting cast includes Allison Janney and Lamorne Morris, according to Variety.

'Not Alone' is co-directed by Illumination's Eric Guillon, who previously co-directed 'Despicable Me 3' and designed 'Despicable Me' and 'Minions', Claire Dodgson, editor of 'The Lorax' and 'Minions'; and Jonathan Del Val, co-director of 'Minions: The Rise of Gru' and 'The Secret Life of Pets 2'.

The film is produced by Illumination founder and CEO Chris Meledandri, with Joy Poirel, Richard Curtis and David Distenfeld serving as executive producers, according to Variety.

A joint production of Illumination and Universal Pictures, 'Not Alone' is slated to release in theatres on April 16, 2027.

Awww, the alien names Dunk, Welly, and Shirm are adorable! 🛸 Selena Gomez as a rocket botanist sounds cool. But honestly, 2027 release? India has so many upcoming sci-fi films too - can't we get a desi one sooner? Hope this does well though.

A plant-fueled rocket? Illumination's creativity never ceases to amaze me. 💡 Wish our Indian animation studios would get such global backing. The cast is impressive - Brett Goldstein from Ted Lasso! Looking forward to this one.

Not sure why they needed another alien movie, but the plot sounds sweet. Two awkward nerds falling in love while helping aliens? 🥺 And the aliens are on the run from a law enforcement officer - that's actually clever. Hope it's not too predictable like some Illumination films.

Oh what's this? Timothee and Selena in a cartoon? 🤔 Not sure about the alien theme again—seems overdone. But Illumination usually has good heart. Would have liked an Indian voice actor in there too, like for a dubbed version. Abroad audiences deserve diversity!

Ok, the director credits look solid - same team from Minions and Despicable Me. But 2027 is so far away! 😅 We get these Hollywood animated movies in Indian theaters too, but honestly, I wish our own studios like Toonz or Vaibhav would make something like this. Still, I'll watch it.
