Tiruchirappalli, April 2

Tamil Nadu's election season is heating up as Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam president and actor Vijay is going to file his nomination from Trichy East on Thursday, having earlier registered from Perambur.

Speaking to ANI, TVK leader and candidate from Gopichettipalayam constituency, KA Sengottaiyan, confidently declared, "Those who contest against Vijay will lose their deposit. Former Chief Minister Jayalalithaa also contested from constituencies. It is common for leaders to contest from two constituencies. Vijay's campaign tour will create history."

With a TVK carcade present at Tiruchirappalli Airport, party cadres await the arrival of party president Vijay.

Meanwhile, security has been tightened outside the Returning Officer's office for Tiruchirappalli (East) constituency ahead of Vijay's arrival.

Earlier, on March 30, Vijay had filed his nomination for the Perambur constituency, accompanied by a massive roadshow with a sea of supporters.

Vijay is contesting from two key seats - Perambur and Trichy East - against DMK incumbents RD Sekar and Inigo S Irudayaraj, respectively. Perambur, a former stronghold of the CPI (M) until 2016, has been held by RD Sekar since the 2019 bypolls.

A day prior, on March 29, Vijay unveiled the TVK manifesto, promising "anti-drug protection zones" in all schools and colleges, monthly financial assistance for students, and initiatives to transform youth from job seekers into job creators.

Vijay announced a monthly assistance of Rs 4,000 for graduates and Rs 2,000 for diploma holders.

Outlining his plans for employment, he said, "Our long-term goal is to transform youth from job seekers into job creators." He promised the "Local Employment for Local People" scheme, stating that steps will be taken to ensure 75 per cent of jobs in Tamil Nadu are given to Tamils.

Vijay also announced the "Creative Entrepreneurs Scheme" to develop 1.5 lakh creators into entrepreneurs and establish 500 creative schools across the state.

Actor-turned-politician Vijay is making his electoral debut with TVK, turning the upcoming elections into a three-way contest.

The main electoral contest in the State is expected between the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK)-led Secular Progressive Alliance (SPA), which also includes Congress, DMDK, and the VCK, and the National Democratic Alliance (NDA), led by AIADMK with the BJP and Pattali Makkal Katchi (PMK) as allies.

Tamil Nadu will go to the polls in a single phase on April 23, covering a total of 234 constituencies in the State. Counting is scheduled for May 4.

Promising Rs 4000 for graduates sounds great, but where will the money come from? We've heard similar promises before. I respect Vijay as an actor, but politics is different. Hope he has a solid economic plan and isn't just relying on fan following.

The "Local Employment for Local People" scheme is a masterstroke! For too long, our youth have struggled. If he can ensure 75% jobs for Tamils, it will be a game-changer. TVK might just be the fresh alternative we were waiting for.

Watching from the US. The energy in Tamil Nadu politics is incredible! The anti-drug zones in schools is a very positive and necessary promise. Wishing all voters a peaceful and thoughtful election.

Contesting from two seats shows he's serious. But "lose their deposit" is a very bold claim. DMK and AIADMK have strong ground-level workers. The real test will be on counting day. May the best team win!

As a mother, the promise of anti-drug protection zones gives me so much relief. The youth are our future. Whether it's TVK or anyone else, whoever works sincerely on this issue gets my support. All the best to all candidates.
