BJP leader and MP Meenakashi Lekhi on Wednesday expressed her deepest condolences over the demise of Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar, who died earlier today in a charter plane crash in Baramati.

Speaking to ANI, Lekhi said, "I am very sorry to have learnt about this. My deepest condolences to the family. The crash occurred around 8.48 am, and the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) and the Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau have dispatched probe teams to the site of the mishap to investigate.

Pawar was on his way to Baramati from Mumbai to campaign for the Zilla Panchayat elections.

Meanwhile, as part of the investigation into the crash, Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau (AAIB) officials were present at the office of VSR Ventures Private Limited, which operates the ill-fated charter plane. The AAIB team left the office after placing boxes of documents into vehicles.

Such a shocking and sad news. To lose a leader in this manner is heartbreaking. The DGCA must conduct a thorough investigation. Safety of our politicians and citizens in air travel cannot be compromised.

Beyond politics, this is a human tragedy. Five lives lost, including crew and security. My thoughts are with all the families. It's good to see leaders across parties coming together in grief. Strength to them all.

Reading this from abroad. The fact that he was campaigning right till the end shows his dedication. A state holiday and full state honours is a fitting tribute. Rest in peace, sir.

A respectful criticism: While the investigation is crucial, we must also look at the regulation of private charter operators. This isn't the first such incident. We need stricter audits and safety protocols to prevent future losses.

Six terms as Deputy CM! What an incredible legacy of public service. His work for Baramati and Maharashtra is well-known. May his soul attain sadgati. The three-day mourning period is appropriate.
