Is this Sorcery? 'Harry Potter' gets Season 2 renewal ahead of series premiere

Washington DC, May 7

HBO has officially greenlit a second season of its upcoming "Harry Potter" series, which will debut its first season this Christmas, reported Variety.

Acccording to the outlet, the news aligns with the network's plan to adapt all seven of JK Rowling's 'Harry Potter' books into seven seasons of television over the course of a decade.

Season 2, which will be based on the book 'Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets,' will begin filming this fall, reported Variety.

Jon Brown, a writer on the first season of the adaptation, has been promoted to serve as co-showrunner on Season 2.

He joins current showrunner Francesca Gardiner, who said in a statement, "As we have laid out our plans for the overlapping production schedules to finish Season 1 by Christmas and to return to production for Season 2 this autumn, it has become clear that bringing on a co-showrunner is the key to maintaining our momentum. I've loved working with Jon from the very first day we met on 'Succession' through to these recent times together on 'Harry Potter.' Not only do I have huge admiration for his writing, but he's also a brilliant collaborator and a lovely person. We are lucky to have him," as quoted by Variety.

"I'm incredibly excited to be collaborating with Francesca as co-showrunner. It has been a joy to write on 'Philosopher's Stone' and I'd like to thank Francesca and HBO for putting their faith in me to continue this remarkable journey. Seems you're never too old to get your invitation to Hogwarts," said Brown as quoted by Variety.

Titled 'Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone', based on the U.K. version of the first 'Harry Potter' book's title, Season 1 begins with Harry's (Dominic McLaughlin) 11th birthday, when he receives a letter of admittance to Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, which opens up a new world for him while also forcing him to face a dangerous enemy from his past.

Gardiner serves as executive producer alongside director Mark Mylod, Rowling, Neil Blair, and Ruth Kenley-Letts of Brontë Film and TV and David Heyman of Heyday Films. Warner Bros. Television is the studio.

Hold up - they're already planning Season 2? What if Season 1 is a disaster? This feels like putting the cart before the horse. Also, with JK Rowling's controversies, I wonder how Indian audiences will react. Many of my friends are still conflicted about supporting anything related to her. 🤔

As a parent, this is brilliant! My kids are obsessed with the movies, but a proper TV adaptation means they can experience the books faithfully. Seven seasons over a decade - they'll grow up with Harry! Just hope they cast well and don't 'modernize' it too much. Indian kids deserve to see the magic too. 🇮🇳❤️

I'm from the US and even I think this is premature. HBO must really trust their production team. But honestly, as long as they stick to the books and don't add unnecessary 'woke' elements, I'm all in. The casting of Dominic McLaughlin as Harry seems interesting - hope he brings something fresh.

Chamber of Secrets is my favorite book! 🐍 But I'm a bit skeptical - the movies were already perfect, so why remake? Still, I'll give it a chance. The overlapping production schedules sound smart though. Also, nice to see Jon Brown getting promoted - always good to see talent rewarded. Let's see if they can capture the 'Indian' magic of Hogwarts! 😄

I'm cautiously optimistic. The Harry Potter universe is beloved worldwide, but let's not forget the controversies around Rowling. Also, seven seasons is a massive commitment - hope they don't burn out
