Defence Minister Rajnath Singh on Tuesday said that on this day in 2024, Prime Minister Narendra Modi took oath for a third consecutive term, scripting a new chapter in India's political history.
Taking to the social media platform X, Rajnath Singh said, "On this Day in 2024, Shri @narendramodi took oath as the Prime Minister of India for the third consecutive time, scripting a new chapter in India's history. Modiji's visionary leadership has redefined governance through the spirit of Seva over the last 12 years, ensuring that development reaches every section of society."
He further said that the journey of "#12YearsOfSeva" has been guided by the principle of "Service Before Self" and has been marked by the empowerment of the poor, strengthened national security, transformative reforms, rapid infrastructure growth, and digital innovation.

Meanwhile, Prime Minister Modi is set to complete 12 years at the helm of the Union government on June 10, marking a political journey that has significantly reshaped India's electoral and governance landscape.
From his first swearing-in ceremony in 2014 to securing successive mandates in 2019 and a historic third consecutive term in 2024, PM Modi has emerged as one of India's longest-serving leaders.
His tenure spans more than two decades in executive office, including nearly 13 years as Chief Minister of Gujarat and more than 4,400 days as Prime Minister.
The PM Modi era has also been marked by a series of high-profile infrastructure and nation-building projects, including the new Parliament building, Central Vista redevelopment, Kartavya Path, Vande Bharat trains, the Statue of Unity, INS Vikrant, the Kashmir rail link, Noida International Airport, Namo Bharat RRTS and the Ganga Expressway.
On June 10, Prime Minister Modi will cross the record set by India's first Prime Minister, Jawaharlal Nehru, who was first elected to the post in 1952 (his previous stint from 1947-52 was as head of an interim government as elections were yet to be institutionalised and held). Indira Gandhi had a fractured tenure totalling 14 years. Prime Minister Modi has an unbroken tenure of 12 years as the PM, and still has three more years to go for the current tenure.

While I respect the mandate, I wish there was more focus on unemployment and farmer issues. Infrastructure is good but what about the rising prices of everyday goods? Let's not forget that governance is about balancing all aspects, not just grand projects.
Impressive milestone indeed. As an observer from abroad, the consistency of Modi's leadership is remarkable in a democracy. The 'Seva' narrative seems to resonate well with the Indian masses. 12 years unbroken is no small feat.
The Statue of Unity and new Parliament building are indeed symbols of national pride. But I still remember how much controversy there was over the Central Vista project. Would have appreciated more transparency in such massive spends. Still, credit where due for the vision.
As someone who follows Indian politics, it's fascinating to see how Modi has broken the jinx of no PM completing a full term since 1984. The railway connectivity in Kashmir alone is a game-changer. Hoping this momentum continues for Viksit Bharat.
