Mumbai, May 6

Former Indian cricketer Sanjay Bangar shared his thoughts on the much-anticipated IPL 2026 clash between Sunrisers Hyderabad and Punjab Kings, calling it a crucial fixture during the ongoing 'Revenge Week'.

PBKS are currently at the top of the IPL 2026 points table with 13 points from nine matches, having won six of their games. Meanwhile, SRH are in third place with 12 points from 10 matches, securing six wins and four losses.

Speaking on Star Sports, Bangar emphasised the similarities between the two teams, highlighting their potential to post high scores.

"Both teams are capable of posting scores around 225 and have very similar combinations. Their top orders are in good form, supported by high-quality pace attacks, though both have shown some vulnerability in the middle overs," JioStar expert Bangar noted.

Key players like Heinrich Klaasen for SRH and Shreyas Iyer for PBKS were identified by Bangar as players to watch in the fixture. He believes their performances will be crucial to the outcome of the game.

"With both teams looking to bounce back after recent losses, it promises to be an exciting contest. Personally, I'm backing my former team, Punjab Kings," Bangar added.

Meanwhile, speaking during the pre-match press conference, SRH head coach Daniel Vettori reflected on PBKS' recent losses and the key role their opening pair plays in shaping their performance.

Vettori highlighted that both teams share similarities in their aggressive batting approach, which sets the tone for their respective innings."In both of PBKS' losses, their opening pair obviously hasn't got a score, so that puts a different perspective on how you go about the game," Vettori noted.

"It's the same for us. We know when Travis and Abhishek get away, how much it sets up a team performance, and it's exactly the same for Punjab. So, a lot of emphasis on those two batters and how we're going to cope with them," the SRH head coach added.

Vettori is spot on about the opening pair. If Travis Head and Abhishek Sharma click, SRH is unstoppable. But PBKS has that same template with Bairstow and Dhawan. It's going to be a toss-up contest honestly. My heart says SRH but head says PBKS this time.

Good to see Bangar backing his old team. But honestly, both teams need to sort their middle order collapses. When was the last time SRH crossed 200 without Klaasen firing? And PBKS – if Iyer fails, their middle order looks thin. Middle overs bowling will decide this game.

Finally the “Revenge Week” is giving us quality clashes! Bangar and Vettori both said basically the same thing – openers are key. But I think Klaasen vs Rabada will be the real battle. If Klaasen goes early, SRH is in trouble. Love the enthusiasm though! 🌟

True that – both teams are like mirror images. Strong opening, good pace attack, but the middle order is fragile. SRH's spin department is a worry though. Rashid Khan hasn't been economical lately. And PBKS' Chahal can be carted around. Vettori and Bangar need to sort these issues aside from just talking about openers!

225+ scores? I think that's optimistic on these pitches. Hyderabad track has been two-paced lately. But if anyone can chase 225, it's these two teams. Would love to see an absolute run-fest. Honestly, I'm just here for the
