Telangana: Portal launched for families of police martyrs

Hyderabad, Aug 9

Telangana Police on Sunday launched a portal for the families of police martyrs to register their grievances.

Director General of Police C. V. Anand launched TG-VEER, a dedicated grievance portal for the families of police martyrs.

The portal provides a single platform for families to register grievances relating to financial assistance, compassionate appointments, plot allotment and other benefits to which they are entitled.

It also brings together the martyr's service profile, family details and benefits received, along with a centralised repository of relevant Government Orders. Senior officers can monitor and track grievances at the unit and State levels.

On the second day of his visit to districts, DGP Anand interacted with the family members of 28 police martyrs of the Warangal Commissionerate who lost their lives in the line of duty while fighting Naxalism.

On the occasion, the DGP issued QR-code-enabled family cards to the martyrs' families. Scanning the QR code will directly take the family member to the TG-VEER grievance portal. He directed the SIB officials, who developed the portal, to immediately communicate to all units to collect grievances of all martyrs' families and submit a consolidated report.

The families brought several long-pending issues to the DGP's notice, including ex-gratia, financial assistance, plot allotment and registration or title issues, pension and other welfare matters. The DGP noted the grievances and assured the families that he would take up the issues with the Government and pursue their resolution.

He also directed the Warangal Police Commissioner to personally monitor the issues and extend all possible support to the families. Sharing his personal association with Warangal, where he began his career during the peak of the Naxal movement, DGP Anand said he could empathise with the pain of families who had lost their loved ones in the line of duty.

Recalling the difficult years during which police personnel faced ambushes and exchanges of fire, he said the peace prevailing in the region today was built on the sacrifices of those officers and personnel who placed duty above their own lives.

Before proceeding to the crime review meeting, the DGP inspected the under-construction CP office building, which is nearing completion. Police Commissioner Swetha briefed him on the ongoing works.

The DGP emphasised that the new building should improve the experience of citizens visiting the office, enhance internal efficiency and provide scope for technology integration and better surveillance.

He directed that unused and dilapidated structures be removed and that the internal approach roads leading to the new office be improved to ensure better accessibility and visibility.

The QR-code-enabled family cards are such a thoughtful touch. Makes it so easy for elderly family members who may not be tech-savvy to access the portal. Hats off to the DGP for personally meeting with the families and listening to their issues.

While this is a welcome step, I hope the portal doesn't become another bureaucratic black hole. We've seen many such initiatives in the past that look good on paper but fail in implementation. The real test will be how quickly grievances are actually resolved, not just registered.

My father was a retired constable, and I've seen the struggles of police families firsthand. The sacrifices these heroes make are unimaginable. The DGP's personal touch - visiting families and recalling his days in Warangal - shows genuine empathy. This is how leaders should serve. ❤️

It's encouraging to see technology being used for such noble causes. The centralized repository of government orders and the ability for senior officers to track grievances at both unit and state levels should bring much-needed transparency and accountability.

My uncle served in the police during the Naxal period in the '90s and he still talks about those difficult days. The peace we enjoy today truly was built on the sacrifices of these brave men and women. This initiative is long overdue. Kudos to TG Police! 👏
