Telangana to become education, sports hub: CM Revanth
Hyderabad, June 19
Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy on Friday affirmed that the state government has resolved to transform Telangana into an education and sports hub in the country.
The establishment of Young India Integrated Residential Schools and Young India Sports University is part of initiatives aimed at introducing revolutionary reforms in education and winning medals in the Olympics in the future, the Chief Minister said.
He was addressing a gathering of students at LB Stadium, where he, along with Governor Shiv Pratap Shukla, launched the distribution of Young India student kits to 27.50 lakh students and laid foundation stones for sports complexes in different districts.
Warning that the "AI storm" is leaving millions unemployed, the Chief Minister said the government has launched skill development programmes for the youth to create more blue‑collar jobs.
A facility to provide German and Japanese language teaching programmes alongside English has also been created to help the youth secure jobs abroad. Industrial Training Institutes (ITIs) have been transformed into Advanced Technology Centres (ATCs), and a Skill University has been established to develop the youth's talent and shape them into skilled manpower.
The Chief Minister emphasised that students educated in social welfare institutions should become doctors, IAS and IPS officers, and political leaders. He called upon students to join as active partners in the reconstruction of Telangana.
CM Revanth Reddy held the previous BRS government responsible for the deterioration of education standards in the state, saying they failed to increase the diet and cosmetic charges during their decade‑long tenure.
He added, "We increased the charges immediately upon assuming office. Many government schools were closed down in the last government, and they have been reopened in recent times."
The CM took strong exception to opposition criticism of the absence of a dedicated Education Minister in the state cabinet. He said he retained the education portfolio to overhaul the entire system, aiming to provide quality education to poorer sections.
He highlighted that the government introduced a pre‑primary education system by reviving government schools and competing with private institutions. "Today, government schools are displaying 'No admission' boards as demand for seats has increased manifold," he said.
The Chief Minister also highlighted the allocation of 8.5 per cent of the budget to education and termed it a positive sign of strengthening the sector. He stated that Rs 26,600 crore is being spent on education alone in the 2026‑27 financial year. The government considers education spending an investment in future generations.
On the occasion, the Governor and the Chief Minister administered an anti‑drug pledge to students.
They launched various initiatives to develop sports infrastructure in the state at a cost of Rs 50.73 crore.
Foundation stones were laid for the construction of mini‑stadiums and the development of sports infrastructure across districts, with an outlay of Rs 36.65 crore.
They also inaugurated various sports academies for boys and girls at Gachibowli and LB Stadium, at a cost of Rs 14.08 crore.

As a mother of two school-going kids, I'm cautiously optimistic. The pre-primary education revival and 'No Admission' boards in government schools sound promising. But what about quality teachers? And why no dedicated Education Minister? The CM holding the portfolio himself is fine, but we need accountability. Also, German and Japanese language training is a smart move for jobs abroad—finally some practical thinking! 👩👧👦
Good to see Telangana focusing on sports infrastructure and academies. But 50.73 crore for sports complexes across districts? That's not much when you consider proper maintenance and equipment costs. And the "AI storm" warning is real—blue-collar job creation is fine, but we also need to prepare students for AI-driven industries, not just foreign language skills. Hope the skill university curriculum is updated regularly.
The anti-drug pledge is much needed! But I'm more excited about the sports academies at Gachibowli. Finally, girls and boys both get facilities. As someone who played state-level basketball, I know how neglected sports are in our state. If Revanth ji can deliver Olympic medals through this, I'll be the first to applaud. But please—don't let caste politics or corruption spoil these initiatives. 🏏🏀
Impressive budget allocation of 8.5%—that's better than many states. But Rs 26,600 crore needs to be tracked carefully. In my experience working with NGOs in Hyderabad, many government schools still lack basic facilities like clean toilets and drinking water. The CM's vision is big, but execution on the ground is where it matters. Also, blaming the previous BRS government is fine, but focus on your own deliverables now.
