PM Modi addresses massive Chengalpattu rally, declares countdown for DMK government has begun. BJP-NDA aims for "double-engine" government in Tamil Nadu.

"The countdown of DMK's exit has begun. - Narendra Modi"

Chengalpattu, January 23

Union Minister and the BJP's election in-charge for Tamil Nadu, Piyush Goyal, on Friday hailed Prime Minister Narendra Modi's "mega rally" in Madurantakam, saying that the public meeting garnered a massive crowd.

The Union Minister told ANI, "Look at the crowd, it is unbelievable. It is a historic rally. The parties (NDA allies) are all in full strength; this is Tamil Nadu's biggest mega rally."

NDA leaders from the BJP, AIADMK and AMMK were present in a show of strength in Chengalpattu rally.

Earlier today, Prime Minister Narendra Modi hit out at the ruling DMK-led alliance in the poll-bound Tamil Nadu, saying the countdown for its exit has begun and a BJP-NDA government will be formed in the state.

Addressing a public meeting in Tamil Nadu's Chengalpattu district, PM Modi slammed the DMK, saying the party has betrayed the trust of people and alleged that it is involved in corruption.

He said people are calling the "DMK government the CMC (corruption, mafia, crime) government".

He said, "You gave DMK a full majority twice, but they broke the trust of the people of Tamil Nadu. DMK made heaps of promises but delivered zero work. People are now calling the DMK government the CMC government. CMC government means a government that promotes 'Corruption, Mafia, and Crime.' The people of Tamil Nadu have now made up their minds to uproot both DMK and CMC. Here, a BJP-NDA double-engine government is certain to come to power."

The Prime Minister said the "massive crowd" present here is sending a strong message in Tamil Nadu and the nation. "The message that Tamil Nadu is now ready for a change. The state wants liberation from the misrule of DMK and wants the BJP-NDA government," he said.

"NDA family's senior leaders have come together to decide the fate of Tamil Nadu. They are here with one resolve, that we have to liberate Tamil Nadu from the DMK government. We have to make Tamil Nadu a Viksit (developed), safe and corruption-free state. I can clearly see that the countdown of DMK's exit has begun," he added.

Tamil Nadu will face polls in the first half of this year, with the opposition NDA looking to defeat the DMK-led alliance. Actor-turned-politician Vijay's Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam is also seeking to throw out the DMK government.

As a Tamilian, I'm tired of the same old politics. Whether it's DMK or AIADMK, corruption is rampant. If BJP-NDA can bring real development and jobs, I'm willing to give them a chance. But they must respect Tamil culture and language.

Massive crowds don't always translate to votes. Let's see what happens in the actual election. DMK has a strong base here. BJP is still seen as a North Indian party by many in our state.

The "CMC" nickname is sadly accurate. The corruption in local municipalities is out of control. If a double-engine government can fix basic infrastructure and bring transparency, it would be a blessing.

Watching from abroad, it's interesting to see BJP's push in the South. Tamil Nadu's election will be a key test for national parties versus strong regional players. The alliance with AIADMK is a smart move.

With Vijay's party also in the fray, it's a three-cornered fight now. Voters are confused. We need less rally rhetoric and more concrete plans for industrial growth and water management in TN.
