Taipei, May 29

Taiwan's Ministry of National Defence detected the presence of 10 sorties of Chinese military aircraft, eight naval vessels and four official ships operating around its territorial waters as of 6am on Friday.

In a post on X, the MND said, "10 sorties of PLA aircraft, 8 PLAN vessels and 4 official ships operating around Taiwan detected up until 6 a.m. (UTC+8) today. 10 out of 10 sorties crossed the median line and entered Taiwan's northern, central, southwestern and eastern part ADIZ. ROC Armed Forces have monitored the situation and responded."

Earlier on Thursday, the MND detected nine sorties of Chinese military aircraft and six vessels around itself. All nine sorties crossed the median line of the Taiwan Strait and entered Taiwan's central and southwestern part ADIZ.

Earlier on May 21, US President Donald Trump, in his gaggle with the press at Joint Base Andrews en route to Groton, CT, said that the US will work on the 'Taiwan problem'.

"On Taiwan, I'll speak to everyone. We have that situation very well in hand. We had a great meeting with President Xi; it was amazing actually. We'll work on that Taiwan problem," he said.

China's claim over Taiwan is a complex issue rooted in historical, political, and legal arguments. Beijing asserts that Taiwan is an inseparable part of China, a viewpoint embedded in national policy and upheld by domestic laws and international statements.

Taiwan, however, maintains a distinct identity, functioning independently with its government, military, and economy. Taiwan's status remains a significant point of international debate, testing the principles of sovereignty, self-determination, and non-interference in international law, as per the United Service Institution of India.China's claim to Taiwan originates from the Qing Dynasty's annexation of the island in 1683 after defeating Ming loyalist Koxinga.

Why is this even news in India? We have our own border issues with China. Every day India's MEA releases statements about Chinese incursions. Meanwhile, we're tracking what PLA planes fly over Taiwan? Focus on Doklam, Galwan, our own northern borders. Taiwan is a separate issue. 🙄

As an Indian, I see this as classic Chinese aggression. They did the same thing to us in Ladakh - building infrastructure, sending planes and ships near our borders. But 10 sorties crossing the median line? That's a clear flex. Taiwan's ADIZ is basically being tested. And Trump saying 'we'll work on that Taiwan problem' - what does that even mean? He's not president anymore! 😂

Respectfully, why are we publishing Taiwan's MND statements? India's official position is One China policy. We don't recognize Taiwan as separate. But this article makes it sound like Taiwan is a country with its own ministry of defence. I understand reporting facts but the framing is biased. Let's be consistent with our diplomatic stance. 🇮🇳

Every day there's something about Taiwan's ADIZ, Tibet, South China Sea... China is projecting power everywhere. As an Indian, I worry more about Chinese Navy in the Indian Ocean. They have bases in Pakistan, Djibouti, Maldives under watch. Taiwan is far but the strategy is same - test boundaries, create facts on ground. India needs stronger navy too. 🚢

Trump saying 'we'll work on that Taiwan problem' - he's a businessman. He'll sell
