Agartala, July 7
Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha on Monday said that Dr Syama Prasad Mookerjee's life philosophy will help future generations learn the values of honesty, duty, self-sacrifice, and patriotism.
"It will help in building a strong nation. Therefore, the more Dr Syama Prasad Mookerjee is studied, the more society and the country will benefit," he said.
The 125th birth anniversary of Dr Syama Prasad Mookerjee was celebrated yesterday, and the programme was inaugurated by Chief Minister Manik Saha at the Dr Syama Prasad Mookerjee Town Hall.
He said that Syama Prasad Mookerjee was a great patriot, renowned educationist, Member of Parliament, and visionary statesman.
"He was an outstanding personality who made significant contributions to education, society, culture, and national life at a young age. He was uncompromising on the issue of protecting the unity, integrity, and national cohesion of the country," the Chief Minister said.
Before the start of the programme, Saha laid the foundation stone for a 13-foot-high bronze statue of Dr Syama Prasad Mookerjee by unveiling a plaque at the Town Hall premises and performing the Bhoomi Pujan.
Later, while inaugurating the birth anniversary celebration programme, the Chief Minister said, "The foundation stone laid for the statue of Dr Syama Prasad Mookerjee is not just the beginning of a construction project; it is a symbol of deep respect for our history and national values. This statue will help future generations learn about his life and work and inspire them with the ideals of serving the nation. For the present and new generations, this statue will serve as an inspirational centre of patriotism and national consciousness."
The Chief Minister added that there were many statesmen in the country who sacrificed their lives for the nation, but their histories have not been properly highlighted.
"Statesmen like Dr Syama Prasad Mookerjee and Pandit Deendayal Upadhyay taught us how to serve the country. Prime Minister Narendra Modi is taking the country forward in the direction of further development by following their ideals," he added.

Finally, some recognition for Mookerjee ji. He was a visionary who understood the importance of national integration. But we need to ensure this isn't just political rhetoric—real work on unity is needed across all states.
Syama Prasad Mookerjee was a true patriot. His fight for India's integrity is something we must never forget. Hope the youth learn from his life. 🇮🇳
Good initiative by CM Saha. But we also need to remember Mookerjee's role in opposing the partition of Bengal and his contribution to education. A bronze statue is nice, but history books should also tell his full story.
Inspiring words from the CM! Syama Prasad Mookerjee's self-sacrifice for nation and unity is something we should all learn from. Proud moment for Tripura! 🌟
