"These facilities will ensure a safe, reliable and efficient operation of India's first Bullet Train project. - Official Release"

Surat, April 2

The Mumbai-Ahmedabad Bullet Train project will be serviced by three Rolling Stock depots located at Sabarmati and Surat in Gujarat and Thane in Maharashtra.

Surat Rolling Stock depot, with an area of about 27 Ha, will be equipped with facilities for the commissioning and maintenance of the trains. It will have state-of-the-art equipment for light maintenance of trainsets with inspection bays, washing plant, stabling lines, etc, an official release said.

Daily and regular inspection of rolling stock will be carried out in the depot premises. Two (02) inspection-cum-stabling lines are being provided at present, and with a provision of four (04) stabling lines in future. In addition to inspection, unscheduled repair and wheel re-profiling facilities are also being provided in the depot.

These facilities will ensure a safe, reliable and efficient operation of India's first Bullet Train project.

Earlier, the National High Speed Rail Corporation Limited (NHSRCL) had facilitated a series of educational and technical visits for young engineers to the Mumbai-Ahmedabad Bullet Train project sites, as part of its efforts to promote experiential learning and strengthen industry-academia collaboration.

These visits were designed to provide practical exposure to the engineers and to enable them to understand the construction methodology, engineering precision, and technological advancements involved in India's first high-speed rail corridor.

During the visits, the engineers observed ongoing works, including viaduct construction, station development, bridge works, and track installation. Guided site tours and interactive sessions with project engineers and site management teams formed the core of the programme, allowing the participants to gain deeper insight into project planning, execution, safety practices, and quality assurance mechanisms.

The visits had been organised for various institutions located in Mumbai, Vadodara, and Ahmedabad. NHSRCL continued to invite engineers and technical institutions to participate in such educational visits, reinforcing its commitment to knowledge sharing and skill development for the next generation of engineers.

While the project is impressive, I hope the cost-benefit is clear. The ticket prices need to be affordable for the common man, not just for business travelers. Also, hope the land acquisition for the depot was done fairly.

The educational visits for young engineers are the best part. Hands-on experience on such a mega project is invaluable. This is how we build capacity and reduce dependency on foreign expertise in the long run. Kudos NHSRCL!

As someone who travels frequently between Mumbai and Ahmedabad for work, this can't come soon enough. The current travel options are so time-consuming. A reliable and fast bullet train will be a game-changer for productivity.

The technology transfer and skill development aspect is crucial. It's not just about building a train line, but building the capability to build more ourselves. This is a step towards true 'Make in India' for advanced rail systems.
