'Star City' trailer out, to stream from May 29
Washington DC, April 23
Apple TV has dropped the official trailer for Star City, a space race drama spinoff of For All Mankind.
From creators Ben Nedivi, Matt Wolpert and Ronald D. Moore, Star City tells the alternative history of the space race from the Soviet Union's perspective.
According to the logline of the series, Star City is a propulsive paranoid thriller that takes us back to the key moment in the alt-history retelling of the space race - when the Soviet Union became the first nation to put a man on the moon. But this time, we explore the story from behind the Iron Curtain, showing the lives of the cosmonauts, the engineers, and the intelligence officers embedded among them in the Soviet space program, and the risks they all took to propel humankind forward.
Apple TV shared the trailer on its Instagram handle.
Rhys Ifans stars along with Anna Maxwell Martin, Agnes O'Casey, Alice Englert, Solly McLeod, Adam Nagaitis, Ruby Ashbourne Serkis, Josef Davies and Priya Kansara.
Wolpert and Nedivi serve as showrunners and executive produce alongside Moore and Maril Davis of Tall Ship Productions, as well as Andrew Chambliss and Steve Oster. Star City is produced for Apple TV by Sony Pictures Television.
The eight-episode series premieres globally with two episodes on Friday, May 29, followed by one new episode every Friday through July 10.

Looks promising! But I hope they don't glorify the Soviet system too much. History is complex—they had achievements but also human rights abuses. Would be interesting to see how they balance that.
Thrilled to see Priya Kansara in the cast! Indian representation in a major Apple TV+ series—love it. The trailer looks intense with all the paranoia and thriller vibes. Marking May 29 on my calendar! 🚀
I'm a huge fan of For All Mankind, so this spinoff is a no-brainer for me. The idea of exploring the Soviet space program sounds fascinating, especially the "intelligence officers embedded among them" part—will be like a cold war spy thriller mixed with space drama. Rhys Ifans is a great casting choice!
Honestly, I wish Apple TV would make a series about India's space program—Chandrayaan, Mangalyaan—we've done incredible things with limited resources. But this looks decent. Just hope it's not too propaganda-heavy from the Soviet side, you know?
As a history buff, I'm very curious to see how they reimagine the space race. The trailer gave me Chernobyl vibes in terms of tension and atmosphere. Also, 8 episodes is a perfect length—long enough to develop characters, short enough to avoid dragging. Count me in!
