Rajasthan Royals 15-year-old boy wonder Vaibhav Sooryavanshi is just six sixes away from overtaking Abhishek Sharma's record for most sixes by an Indian batter during a single edition of the Indian Premier League.

Sooryavanshi could achieve this massive six-hitting record during his side's match against Delhi Capitals (DC) at Jaipur. In nine matches so far in the IPL 2026, he has made 400 runs at an average of 44.44 and a strike rate of 238.09, with a century and two fifties to his name and a best score of 103. He has hit 34 fours and 37 sixes so far.

Currently, the record for highest sixes by an Indian batter during a single edition of the IPL is in hands of Abhishek, who cracked 42 sixes alongside 36 fours in the 2024 IPL season, where he scored 484 runs in 16 innings at an average of 32.26 and a strike rate of 207.21, including best score of 75*. He was the 10th-highest-run-getter in the tournament.

Sooryavanshi also stands on the verge of completing another stunning feat. At the age of 15, he had hit 99 sixes in just 27 innings, this is the highest number of sixes hit by a batter in T20s before turning 20, as per ESPNCricinfo. One more six and Sooryavanshi will have a record that generations will perhaps be unable to break, of smashing a century of sixes before turning 20.

So far in his IPL career since last year, Sooryavanshi has scored 652 runs in 16 innings at an average of 40.75 and a strike rate of 224.82, including two centuries and three sixes.

Love seeing young talent from Rajasthan! While I'm excited about the six-hitting record, I hope the team management doesn't put too much pressure on him. At 15, he should enjoy his cricket and develop naturally. Abhishek Sharma's 42 sixes in 2024 was impressive, but Sooryavanshi has a higher ceiling if nurtured properly. ๐Ÿ˜Š

99 sixes before turning 20 is unreal! Remember when we used to think 20 sixes in a season was great? Now a 15-year-old is about to break records. The IPL has truly changed Indian cricket. One more six and he'll have 100 sixes before 20 - that's a record that'll stand for decades. Gill, Jaiswal, now Sooryavanshi - future is bright! ๐Ÿ’ช

I'm excited but slightly concerned about the hype around 15-year-olds. Remember what happened to some earlier prodigies who burned out? The pressure of IPL millions at such a young age can be overwhelming. That said, his technique looks solid and he has good mentors in the RR camp. Hope he stays grounded and focuses on his game. ๐Ÿคž

As an Australian cricket fan, I'm amazed by the depth of talent coming out of India. A 15-year-old with a strike rate of 238 in professional T20 cricket is unheard of even in our Big Bash. The IPL scouting system deserves credit for finding these gems. Sooryavanshi vs DC tonight at Jaipur - can't wait to watch! ๐Ÿ

Just 6 more sixes to break Abhishek Sharma's record! And with the way he's been hitting, that could happen in one or two innings. The best part is his consistency - 400 runs in 9 matches with a
