Show of strength being planned for Malviya's formal return to Cong; preparations underway in Banswara

Former Rajasthan minister Mahendrajeet Singh Malviya rejoins Congress, plans major show of strength in Banswara to consolidate tribal vote bank.

"leaders and workers who had earlier left the Congress along with him would now quit the Bharatiya Janata Party and return - Mahendrajeet Singh Malviya"

Jaipur, Jan 19

Formal preparations have begun for the return of former Rajasthan minister Mahendrajeet Singh Malviya to the Congress party, with plans underway for a major show of strength in Banswara.

On Sunday, Malviya met Rajasthan Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC) President Govind Singh Dotasra after rejoining the party following approval from the Congress high command.

Malviya is expected to formally take Congress membership at a grand public event in Banswara. For this purpose, he has sought time from PCC chief Dotasra.

The proposed programme is being projected as a significant political event aimed at consolidating the party's tribal support base in southern Rajasthan.

Speaking to the media, Malviya said the event in Banswara would witness the participation of senior Congress leaders from both the state and national levels.

Former Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot, former Deputy Chief Minister Sachin Pilot, Leader of the Opposition Tikaram Jully, along with several other prominent party leaders, are likely to be invited.

He asserted that leaders and workers who had earlier left the Congress along with him would now quit the Bharatiya Janata Party and return to the Congress fold.

Commenting on the upcoming municipal and panchayat elections, Malviya expressed confidence in the Congress party's prospects in Banswara. He said that for the last 25 years, the district head post has remained with the Congress and claimed that the party would retain the position once again in the forthcoming elections.

Malviya's return comes after the Congress Disciplinary Committee recommended his re-induction into the party, which was subsequently approved by Congress National President Mallikarjun Kharge.

His comeback is being seen as politically significant, particularly in the tribal-dominated regions of Rajasthan.

Meanwhile, Dotasra welcomed Malviya back into the party. In a post on social media platform X, Dotasra said that Malviya met him at the PCC office after rejoining the Congress and expressed gratitude to the party's top leadership.

He added that the party hopes Malviya will work with full loyalty and dedication to strengthen the Congress and continue to raise his voice for the protection of tribal interests.

I hope this return is based on ideology and service to the tribal community, not just political convenience. We've seen too many leaders switching sides before elections. The real test will be if he delivers on his promise to protect tribal interests.

Good to see senior leaders like Gehlot and Pilot being invited. Shows unity. But the "show of strength" feels a bit over the top. Would rather see that energy and money going into actual development work in Banswara. Just my two paise.

Tribal support is crucial in Rajasthan politics. If Congress can consolidate this vote bank, it will be a major boost for them. Malviya sahab knows the ground reality. Let's see if this ghar wapsi translates into better policies for adivasis.

Interesting political maneuvering. The public event is clearly a signal to the BJP and a morale booster for Congress workers. The timing before local elections is strategic. It will be a test of whether personal loyalty or party machinery matters more on the ground.

Dotasra ji welcoming him back is a good sign. Internal unity is important. But I really hope this isn't just about winning elections. Our tribal brothers and sisters in Banswara need sustained focus on education, healthcare, and jobs. That should be the real show of strength.
