Serie A: Inter Milan crowned champions after beating Parma

Inter Milan secure Serie A 2025-26 title with a 2-0 win over Parma. Thuram and Mkhitaryan score as Chivu wins first trophy as manager.

"That's football and life. There are difficult moments - Nicolo Barella"

Milan, May 4

Inter Milan have been crowned champions of the Serie A 2025-26 season with three matches remaining, sealing the title dominantly. Milan have been crowned after beating Parma 2-0 at the San Siro on Sunday.

Inter's triumph was confirmed after their latest victory, which took them to an unassailable lead at the top of the table, putting them beyond the reach of their closest challengers.

The result caps off a consistent and commanding campaign in which the Milan-based club maintained control of the title race for the majority of the season.

Marcus Thuram scored just before the break with an angled shot placed just beyond the reach of Parma goalkeeper Zion Suzuki. Then 37-year-old Henrikh Mkhitaryan added another in the 80th after taking a pass from Serie A scoring leader Lautaro Martinez, who came off the bench to mark his return from an injury layoff.

Inter Milan clinched their 21st Serie A title, having finished runners-up to Napoli last season after ending an 11-year drought the year before. The triumph keeps them second on the all-time winners' list behind Juventus.

The title also marks a milestone for manager Cristian Chivu, who secured his first senior trophy after taking charge in June 2025, replacing Simone Inzaghi.

During the celebrations, midfielder Nicolo Barella was reminded of his leadership role in Italy's squad that failed to qualify for a third consecutive FIFA World Cup.

"That's football and life. There are difficult moments," Barella said, according to ESPN. "For example, last season we came so close to everything and won nothing. In life you've always got to get back up on your feet."

With the title secured, Inter will now look to finish the season strongly and potentially rotate their squad in the remaining fixtures. Meanwhile, the focus shifts to the battle for European qualification spots and the relegation fight as the Serie A season approaches its conclusion.

As an Indian football fan, I've followed Serie A for years. Inter's consistency this season has been remarkable. Marcus Thuram has really stepped up, and Mkhitaryan at 37 still delivering! That's dedication. Only wish we saw more Indian players in European leagues someday.

Happy for Inter and their fans, but let's not forget the bigger picture. Italy failing to qualify for a third straight World Cup is worrying for a footballing nation. Barella's words are wise, but the federation needs to sort out the grassroots. Anyway, congrats to Inter for a well-deserved title! 👏

Dominant campaign indeed! 🎉 Inter played like true champions all season. Chivu becoming manager mid-season and still winning the title shows great man-management. Lautaro coming back from injury and assisting straight away—what a player! Now the focus should be on pushing for more silverware in the remaining fixtures.

I have mixed feelings. While Inter's title win is impressive, Italian football seems to be struggling globally. Three World Cup misses is alarming. Barella is right about life's ups and downs, but maybe the focus should shift to developing young Italian talent rather than relying on foreign players. However, congratulations to Inter and their passionate fans!
