Sky Network renews 'SNL UK' for a second season of 12 episodes, airing fall 2026. Lorne Michaels praises the show's growth and support from Tina Fey and Jimmy Fallon.

London, May 7

The British live sketch comedy 'Saturday Night Live U.K.' is set to be renewed for a second season, reported Variety.

According to the outlet, Sky Network confirmed that the second season will air in fall 2026 and early 2027 with an initial 12-episode order.

'SNL' creator and 'SNL U.K.' executive producer Lorne Michaels said in a statement, "I'm incredibly proud of our team and the show. It keeps getting better every week. I'm grateful to Dana Strong and Sky for believing in and supporting 'SNL U.K.' I'm excited for the season ahead."

The spinoff has also had plenty of support with 'SNL' alum Tina Fey hosting the inaugural episode of the U.K. version while Jimmy Fallon popped up as a guest for Episode 5, reported Variety.

Michaels and fellow alum Seth Meyers were also heavily involved in development, and Michaels continues to be hands-on.

A second season order highlights Sky's continued faith in the show, which was bumped up from a six- to an eight-episode order before it had even launched.

As Variety previously reported, each episode has a budget of approximately 2.6 million USD, a sum almost unheard of for a British comedy sketch series.

'Ted Lasso's' Hannah Waddingham and 'Doctor Who' star Ncuti Gatwa round out the hosting duties for this season, reported Variety.

I'm glad Sky is putting money behind this. The first season had some genuinely funny moments, especially when Tina Fey hosted. It's nice to see Lorne Michaels expanding the brand beyond America. Though honestly, I wonder if British audiences would prefer their own original sketches rather than an adaptation of an American format. 🇬🇧🇺🇸

As someone who watches both SNL and British panel shows like QI and Would I Lie To You?, I think the UK version needs to find its own voice. The first season was good but felt a bit too Americanized. Hopefully season 2 will have more British writers and performers who understand the local comedy scene. Ncuti Gatwa hosting should be fun though! 🎭

I'm skeptical about this. The original SNL has been struggling with quality for years despite its massive budget. Throwing money at a British version doesn't guarantee good comedy. In India, we've seen how expensive productions like The Great Indian Laughter Challenge didn't always hit the mark. Comedy needs soul and local flavor, not just dollars. 🤔

I'm surprised they're renewing it for fall 2026 - that's quite a wait! But I guess production takes time. The show has some big names behind it, so I'm willing to give it a chance. My only concern is that with such a high budget per episode, the expectations will be enormous. Hope they can balance the pressure and deliver quality content. 🌟
