Saina Nehwal talks of her and PV Sindhu's strong attacking game, "never-give-up" attitude

Panchkula, May 24

Former Indian badminton player Saina Nehwal has said that she and PV Sindhu have strong attacking styles, with Sindhu's height giving her an added advantage.

Nehwal, who has retired, said Sindhu has maintained good fitness and expressed hope that she continues her strong performances.

Nehwal noted that upcoming changes in ranking points (15x3 system) could benefit players.

She also referred to the benefit of a "never-give-up" attitude.

"Both Sindhu and I possess a strong attacking game. Her plus point is her height, she has a quick reach. Luckily, she has maintained a good body...I just hope that she continues to perform as she did before," Nehwal told reporters.

"Furthermore, next year the ranking points are changing. It is 15x3; it will certainly benefit players. The quality that truly helped both Sindhu and me was our 'never-give-up' attitude; our rallying and smashing skills were very good," she added.

Sindhu, a two-time Olympic medalist, recently competed at the Thailand Open, where her journey ended in the quarterfinals with a loss to Akane Yamaguchi.

Following the Thailand Open, Sindhu withdrew from the Malaysia Masters 2026. Sindhu is a two-time Malaysia Masters winner in 2013 and 2016.

It's heartening to see Saina talk so positively about Sindhu – shows the sportsmanship we need. Badminton in India has come a long way from Saina's days. The 15x3 ranking system sounds interesting. But I hope Sindhu also works on consistency against left-handed players like Akane Yamaguchi.

True winners are made of grit, not just talent. Saina and Sindhu embody that. India needs more such role models for young girls. The attacking game is exciting to watch – smash, smash, smash! 🏸 Hope the new ranking system genuinely helps our players climb up the ladder.

As a badminton fan from the US, I've always admired Saina's fighting spirit. Her analysis of Sindhu's game is spot on. The "never give up" attitude is universal in sports. I wish more international players studied Indian badminton tactics – they're truly world-class. Go Sindhu! 💪

Nice to see Saina sharing insights now that she's retired. But I wish she also spoke about the mental pressure Sindhu faces after big wins. Olympic medals come with huge expectations. The 15x3 system might help but players need a strong support system too. Still, proud of both legends! 🙏

Great to see former champions supporting the next generation. Saina's comments about the ranking changes are pretty insightful – 15x3 could really shake things up tactically. Sindhu's defensive play has improved but her smash remains lethal. India's badminton future looks bright with such mentorship! ✨
