Ryan Gosling exits Daniels' upcoming untitled film over scheduling issues

Ryan Gosling leaves upcoming untitled Universal film by Daniels directors due to scheduling conflicts, impacting the project's summer shoot.

"aligning Gosling's availability with the studio's schedule proved unfeasible - Deadline"

Washington, April 3

Actor Ryan Gosling has exited Universal Pictures' untitled event film directed by the acclaimed duo Daniel Kwan and Daniel Scheinert, collectively known as Daniels.

The actor, who was previously in negotiations to headline the project, will no longer be part of the film due to scheduling conflicts, according to Deadline.

The project had been gearing up for a summer shoot in Los Angeles after securing a California tax credit, but was unable to shift from its planned production timeline. As a result, aligning Gosling's availability with the studio's schedule proved unfeasible, preventing a deal from being finalised.

While no specific reason has been officially cited, Gosling's recent professional commitments appear to have played a key role, as per Deadline.

The actor is currently riding high on the success of 'Project Hail Mary', backed by Amazon MGM Studios, which has grossed over USD 300 million worldwide since its release on March 20, as per Deadline.

Additionally, Gosling had wrapped a lengthy shoot for his upcoming film 'Star Wars: Starfighter' toward the end of 2025.

Details about the film's plot remain under wraps, maintaining the air of mystery surrounding the project. Kwan and Scheinert will produce alongside Jonathan Wang under their Playgrounds banner as part of their overall deal with Universal.

The untitled film is currently slated for a theatrical release on November 19, 2027.

Scheduling conflicts happen, especially with top stars. He's had back-to-back hits. 'Project Hail Mary' was fantastic! Maybe this opens the door for another actor to get a big break. Excited to see who steps in.

Honestly, a bit disappointed. Gosling brings a certain charm and depth. But Daniels are geniuses—they'll make it work. The real question is, will the new release date in 2027 hold? That's a long wait yaar.

From an industry perspective, this is a classic logistics headache. A California tax credit locks in your schedule; you can't just shift dates. The studio probably couldn't afford to delay. Business is business.

Respectfully, while I'm a fan, this feels like a missed opportunity for Gosling. Working with visionary directors like Daniels could have been a career highlight. Sometimes you make time for art, not just the next big franchise.

More curious about the plot now! It's all so mysterious. Maybe they can cast someone unexpected? The film is still years away, so plenty of time. Hope the magic isn't lost.
