New Delhi, April 2

The Rail Coach Factory in Kapurthala has manufactured its first 16-car Vande Bharat Chair Car rake, marking its entry into the league of units producing the country's flagship semi-high-speed trains. The rake, equipped with an advanced propulsion system supplied by Alstom, was completed on March 31.

The upgraded Vande Bharat trainset manufactured at RCF Kapurthala reflects Indian Railways' continued commitment towards innovation, passenger comfort, and world-class train manufacturing standards.

According to a press release, the manufacturing journey of the Vande Bharat Chair Cars reflects a major leap in India's railway technological upgradation. Designed and built indigenously by the Integral Coach Factory in Chennai, the train was developed under the Make in India program.

From initial concept and design to prototyping and production, the process showcased India's growing capability in rail technology, culminating in a train that combines speed, efficiency, and passenger comfort.

Vande Bharat features ergonomically designed reclining seats with ample legroom, large panoramic windows to provide better views and natural lighting and fully air-conditioned coaches to maintain a pleasant temperature throughout the trip.

The train has automatic sliding doors, bio-vacuum toilets, and a smooth suspension system that reduces jerks and vibrations, making travel quieter and more relaxing. Together, these features create a premium travel experience focused on safety, comfort, and efficiency.

From a journey which started in 2018 with two Vande Bharat trainsets, a total of 97 Vande Bharat Chair Car trains have been made till now, all from Integral Coach Factory, Chennai.

Earlier, Union Minister for Railways Ashwini Vaishnaw said that the railway is not a question of politics, but a matter which connects the common citizen with the services which governments can provide.

Addressing the House, the Minister emphasised that it remained the "duty of each and every party, each and every state government" to take proactive steps in ensuring railway projects reached completion so that the country's common citizens received justice.

Good to see expansion, but I hope the focus is also on maintaining the existing trains and tracks. Speed is good, but safety and punctuality are paramount. Let's not repeat past mistakes.

From 2 trainsets in 2018 to nearly 100 now! That's some serious scaling up. Proud moment for Indian manufacturing. Now, please connect more tier-2 and tier-3 cities with this network.

The minister is right, railways should be beyond politics. But in reality, new trains and projects often get announced only in election seasons. Hope the momentum continues consistently for true development.
