Bhopal, August 2

Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Yadav here on Sunday paid floral tributes to the State's first Chief Minister, late Ravishankar Shukla, on the occasion of his birth anniversary.

CM Yadav lauded Shukla's administrative foresight and his foundational role in shaping the modern state of Madhya Pradesh, specifically highlighting his historic decision regarding the state's capital.

"He (Ravishankar Shukla) served as the first Chief Minister of the newly formed Madhya Pradesh, having previously held the same office for the Central Provinces and Berar. He will always be remembered for his contributions across various sectors, including education, irrigation, and industry--as well as for his administrative acumen," Yadav said.

He further hailed Shukla's decision to establish Bhopal as the State's capital.

"As a freedom fighter and a senior Congress leader who became the first Chief Minister of Madhya Pradesh, the decision to establish Bhopal as the capital stands as a monumental one--a decision credited entirely to him," he said.

In an X post, Yadav emphasised that Shukla's contributions in the development of the State will forever be remembered.

"On the birth anniversary of the first Chief Minister of Madhya Pradesh, Late Ravishankar Shukla Ji, I paid floral tributes at his portrait in the Legislative Assembly today. His contributions in the fields of education, irrigation, and industrial development in the state will always remain memorable," he said.

Earlier on Saturday, the Madhya Pradesh CM distributed loans worth Rs 300 crore to Self-Help Groups (SHGs) across the state and inaugurated and laid the foundation stones for development projects worth over Rs 283 crore in Jhabua district.

The loans worth Rs 300 crore were distributed under the Madhya Pradesh State Rural Livelihood Mission to strengthen self-help groups. Of the total amount, Rs 10.8 crore was sanctioned for 215 self-help groups in Jhabua district.

The Chief Minister also laid the foundation stone for 29 development works worth Rs 174.64 crore and inaugurated 28 development and infrastructure projects worth Rs 109.17 crore in Jhabua. Besides distributing benefits to beneficiaries under various government schemes, he felicitated meritorious students and visited the 'Aajeevika Mela' exhibition on the occasion.

Respect for the contributions of the first CM. But I do wish the current CM would focus more on these developmental initiatives (like the SHG loans and infrastructure projects) rather than just photo ops. The Jhabua visit looks good on paper though. Actions matter more than tributes.

Shukla ji was a true architect of modern Madhya Pradesh. His work in education and irrigation laid the foundation for the state's growth. CM Yadav rightly honored him. History should always be remembered!

Interesting to see a politician acknowledge a leader from another party. That's what statesmanship looks like—respecting contributions across political lines. Also good to see the focus on SHGs and rural development. Empowering women through these groups is essential for grassroots growth. 👍

Education, irrigation, and industry—these were areas that needed focus back then and still do. Shukla's legacy is the foundation, but the current leadership needs to build on it rather than just giving speeches. The loan distribution for SHGs is a good start, let's see the long-term impact.

The Bhopal capital decision proved to be exceptionally wise—it's centrally located and has grown beautifully. Salute to Shukla ji's vision! Also appreciate CM Yadav's approach of honoring leaders across party lines. That's good politics and good statesmanship combined.
