Rajasthan: MLAs from 1st to 16th Assembly to unite together for celebrating State Legislative's 75-year journey
Jaipur, July 10
Former and current members representing every Rajasthan Assembly, from the first to the sixteenth, will come together on July 15 for a historic conference, marking the commencement of the Amrit Mahotsav celebrations.
The landmark gathering will deliberate on the evolution of democracy, legislative traditions, the dignity of the House, Parliamentary experiences, contemporary challenges, and the Assembly's digital transformation, while celebrating 75 years of Rajasthan's Legislative journey.
Addressing a press conference at the Rajasthan Assembly on Friday, Assembly Speaker Vasudev Devnani said the Amrit Mahotsav marks the completion of 75 years of the Rajasthan Legislative Assembly and celebrates its enduring role as a custodian of democratic values and the voice of the people.
He described the Assembly's journey as an inspiring legacy of public service, constitutional governance, and legislative excellence.
Devnani said that over the past seven decades, members of every Legislative Assembly have contributed significantly to Rajasthan's development, social harmony, and institutional reforms.
Through landmark legislation and historic decisions, the Assembly has laid a strong foundation for the state's social, economic, and administrative progress.
The Amrit Mahotsav, the Assembly Speaker added, is not only a celebration of democratic traditions and legislative achievements but also an opportunity to connect the Assembly's rich legacy with future aspirations.
The inaugural event of the year-long celebrations will be held at the Rajasthan Legislative Assembly on July 15, bringing together former and sitting legislators from every Assembly since Rajasthan's first Legislative Assembly.
The conference will provide a platform for discussions on the evolution of democracy, Parliamentary traditions, the dignity of the House, legislative practices, emerging challenges, and the Assembly's digital transformation.
Former Assembly Speakers, Deputy Speakers, and senior legislators will also be felicitated during the ceremony.
Devnani announced that Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla will attend the inaugural session as the Chief Guest, while the Vice-President and Rajya Sabha Chairman, C.P. Radhakrishnan, will grace the concluding ceremony as the Chief Guest.
Rajasthan Governor Haribhau Bagde and Chief Minister Bhajan Lal Sharma have also been invited to participate in the celebrations.
The Assembly Speaker said the event would showcase the strength of India's Parliamentary democracy by bringing together experience, tradition, innovation, women's participation, youth engagement, and public trust.
He also announced that the Amrit Mahotsav celebrations will continue over the next year through four major events dedicated to strengthening democratic institutions, legislative processes, and constitutional values.
These programmes will feature eminent constitutional experts, parliamentarians, and scholars, while introducing younger generations to the democratic heritage of the Rajasthan Legislative Assembly.
A key highlight of the inaugural conference will be a special discussion on 23 landmark legislations enacted by successive Rajasthan Legislative Assemblies.
Former Assembly Speakers, Deputy Speakers, and former Ministers will share their experiences regarding the social and administrative impact of these laws.
Among the legislations to be discussed are the Rajasthan Land Reforms and Resumption of Jagirs Act, 1952; Rajasthan Zamindari and Biswedari Abolition Act, 1959; Rajasthan Panchayat Samiti and Zila Parishad Act, 1959; Rajasthan Primary Education Act, 1964; Rajasthan Lokayukta and Up-Lokayukta Act, 1973; Rajasthan Right to Information Act, 2001; and the Rajasthan Guaranteed Delivery of Public Services Act, 2011.
Devnani said these landmark laws have played a transformative role in advancing social justice, administrative reforms, education, transparency, and public welfare, and the discussions would examine their continuing relevance in the present context.
As part of the celebrations, former Assembly Speakers Shantilal Chaplot, Sumitra Singh, Dipendra Singh Shekhawat, Kailash Chand Meghwal, and C.P. Joshi, along with former Deputy Speakers Tara Bhandari, Ramnarayan Meena, and Rao Rajendra Singh, will be felicitated.
Former MLAs elected six or more times, as well as senior sitting legislators, will also be honoured in recognition of their contribution to strengthening Rajasthan's democratic traditions.
Devnani also told that the proceedings of the inaugural Amrit Mahotsav event will be broadcast live, enabling citizens across the state, particularly the younger generation, to witness the Assembly's democratic traditions and legislative legacy.
He expressed confidence that the Platinum Jubilee celebrations would serve as a historic milestone in reaffirming the Rajasthan Legislative Assembly's commitment to democracy, constitutional values, and public service.
