Rain forecast across TN; Western Ghats likely to receive moderate showers till July 28
Chennai, July 23
A weak low-pressure circulation prevailing over the coastal areas of Tamil Nadu in the lower levels of the atmosphere is expected to influence weather conditions across the state over the next few days, with the India Meteorological Department forecasting widespread rainfall and gusty winds in several regions.
According to the latest weather bulletin, moderate rainfall accompanied by strong winds is likely at isolated places across Tamil Nadu and Puducherry on Thursday and Friday under the influence of the weather system.
The department said the Western Ghats districts are expected to receive moderate rainfall with gusty winds until July 28, while other parts of Tamil Nadu are likely to witness light to moderate rain during the same period.
The forecast indicates that rainfall activity will remain concentrated over the hilly districts along the Western Ghats, where moisture-laden winds are expected to sustain intermittent showers over the coming days.
Elsewhere in the state, scattered light to moderate rainfall is likely to provide some relief, although the intensity is expected to remain lower than in the hill regions.
For Chennai, the IMD has predicted partly cloudy skies throughout the day. Moderate rainfall is likely at a few places in the city during the evening or night hours, with weather conditions remaining favourable for brief spells of rain accompanied by occasional gusty winds.
Despite the expected rainfall, temperatures are projected to remain above normal in parts of the state. The weather department has forecast that the maximum temperature over the interior districts of Tamil Nadu is likely to remain up to 3 degrees Celsius above the seasonal average until July 26.
Residents in these areas have been advised to take necessary precautions against heat stress during the daytime, especially those engaged in outdoor activities. In contrast, maximum temperatures over the remaining parts of Tamil Nadu, as well as Puducherry, are expected to stay close to normal levels during the forecast period.
Meteorologists said the prevailing weather pattern reflects the combined influence of the weak low-pressure circulation and seasonal atmospheric conditions, which are expected to support intermittent rainfall across the state over the next several days.
The department has advised the public, particularly those in the Western Ghats districts, to stay updated with official weather advisories as changing conditions could lead to brief spells of heavy rain and gusty winds in isolated locations.

Typical Chennai forecast - evening rain, but days stay hot! Last week they said the same thing, and we got nothing. Let's see if IMD gets it right this time.
Living in the Western Ghats area, we're used to this pattern. But the forecast of gusty winds till July 28 is concerning - last time my neighbour's banana plantation got flattened. Hope everyone stays safe.
We moved from London to Ooty two years ago, and I still can't get used to these sudden weather changes. The forecast sounds accurate based on what we've been seeing. Perfect weather for a hot cup of chai! ☕
Finally some relief! The interior districts have been boiling at 37°C for weeks. But the article says temps could stay above normal till July 26 - that's not good for my elderly parents in Salem. Stay hydrated everyone 💧
I'm visiting family in Madurai next week, and this forecast helps me pack right! Light rain sounds perfect for temple visits. Hope the roads don't get too waterlogged though.
