Beijing, May 19

Russian President Vladimir Putin arrived in Beijing on Tuesday night for a State Visit to China.

At the invitation of Chinese President Xi Jinping, Putin is visiting China from May 19 to 20. This is Putin's 25th visit to China. The two Presidents will exchange views on bilateral relations, cooperation in various fields, and international and regional issues of mutual interest, according to China's foreign ministry.

This year marks the 30th anniversary of the establishment of the China-Russia strategic partnership of coordination and the 25th anniversary of the signing of the China-Russia Treaty of Good-Neighbourliness and Friendly Cooperation, Xinhua news agency reported.

The two sides will take this opportunity to continue deepening and elevating relations between China and Russia, so as to inject more stability and positive energy into the world, a Chinese foreign ministry spokesman said.

Earlier on Tuesday, Putin said, Russia-China relations have reached "a truly unprecedented level," in a video address delivered before his state visit to China.

The President noted that "regular mutual visits and Russia-China top-level talks are an important and integral part of our joint efforts to promote the entire range of relations between our two countries and unlock their truly limitless potential."

The special nature of Russia-China relations is reflected in the atmosphere of mutual understanding and trust, a commitment to pursuing win-win and equitable cooperation, conducting respectful dialogue, and supporting each other on matters affecting the core interests of both countries, including protection of sovereignty and state unity, he said.

"Together we are doing everything that can further deepen bilateral collaboration and advance the comprehensive development of our countries," Putin said, noting that these issues will shape the agenda of the upcoming talks in Beijing.

The results of US President Donald Trump's visit to China may be discussed during Putin's visit to Beijing, Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Andrei Rudenko told reporters on Tuesday, Tass news agency reported.

While I appreciate the de-dollarization push and balancing US hegemony, India has to be cautious. China and Russia are cozy, but they didn't support us on issues like UNSC reform or terrorism. Let's not romanticize this—every country looks out for itself. India must prioritize its own national interests first. 🤔

"Unprecedented level" and "limitless potential" — these phrases from Putin show that Eurasia's future is being written not in Washington or Brussels but in Beijing and Moscow. India should engage proactively with both, especially on energy security and infrastructure like the International North-South Transport Corridor. Excellent move by Russia. 👍

Honestly, Putin's 25th visit to China shows how isolated Russia has become after the Ukraine conflict. They need China more than the other way around. India must not put all eggs in one basket. We have a good equation with the USA too, and balancing these will be key. Hope our diplomats are watching closely.

Interesting that even Russia is now playing the 'multipolar' card so openly. From an Indian perspective, we should note that Putin mentioned "supporting each other on sovereignty and state unity." That's a veiled message for the West on Taiwan and other issues. India should similarly expect reciprocity on Kashmir and border disputes.

Mark my words—this visit is also about discussing Trump's America. Russia and China are trying to coordinate on how to deal with US policies. India should not be a passive observer. We need more strategic meetings with Russia too, not just defense deals but energy, space, and Arctic cooperation. Time to act smart.
