Punjab CM stamps revised Heritage Street project in Anandpur Sahib
Chandigarh, June 3
Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann on Wednesday reviewed two landmark projects aimed at strengthening the state's cultural identity and showcasing its rich heritage to the world.
Chairing a high-level meeting of the Tourism and Cultural Affairs Department, CM Mann approved the construction of a grand welcome gate at the Shambhu border, designed to celebrate Punjab's 'Panj-ab' identity and architectural legacy. He also cleared the revised Heritage Street project in Anandpur Sahib.
The Heritage Street will connect Quilla Sri Anandgarh Sahib, Takht Sri Kesgarh Sahib, and other historic gurdwaras, creating a spiritual and cultural corridor for devotees and visitors, while reinforcing the state's commitment to preserving its religious and historical heritage.
CM Mann approved the revised plan for Heritage Street in Anandpur Sahib, one of Sikhism's most revered historic and spiritual centres.
"The proposed Heritage Street in Anandpur Sahib will begin from the roundabout near Quilla Anandgarh Sahib and extend to Takht Sri Kesgarh Sahib Park, Gurdwara Sisganj Sahib, and Gurdwara Bhora Sahib. The project has been conceived to further strengthen the spiritual and heritage experience for devotees and visitors," said CM Mann.
He added that all necessary approvals would be obtained from the relevant authorities to ensure the smooth execution of the project.
"The design will be duly approved by the Union Ministry of Tourism and other competent authorities. A high-powered committee will also be constituted to oversee the smooth and hassle-free implementation and execution of the project," he said.

This is lovely to see. I visited Anandpur Sahib last year and the spiritual atmosphere is incredible. A corridor like this will make it easier for international visitors to understand the historical significance of each site. Hope they add proper signages and clean facilities too!
While I appreciate the vision, I hope the government doesn't just focus on beautification and forget basic maintenance. Heritage projects in Punjab often look great initially but get neglected after a few years. Also, the Shambhu border gate - will it have proper parking for devotees? That's always a mess.
Finally, some good news for heritage tourism in Punjab! The 'Panj-ab' welcome gate at Shambhu border will give a proper identity to our state. But I really hope they involve local historians and the Sikh clergy in the design process so it remains authentic. Heritage is not just about pretty buildings!
Good to see the government focusing on religious tourism. Anandpur Sahib is such an underrated place - the history of Khalsa Panth, the fort, the gurdwaras... it's a goldmine for spiritual seekers. I just hope the execution doesn't get delayed in bureaucratic red tape. And please, proper waste management around the sites!
Nice concept but I'm skeptical about the implementation. The Union Ministry of Tourism approval could take ages. Also, they need to ensure the Heritage Street doesn't become a commercial mess with hawkers everywhere. The spiritual sanctity must be preserved. Let's see if this actually gets completed on time.
