Public anger against Congress govt in K'taka compelled to change CM: PM Modi

Surat, June 5

Prime Minister Narendra Modi said on Friday that growing public dissatisfaction with the Congress government in Karnataka was forcing political adjustments within the party, including discussions surrounding a change in the state's chief ministership.

Addressing a public meeting in Surat, PM Modi cited Karnataka while criticising Congress and discussing political trends in states governed by the opposition party.

"There is also considerable anger among the people of Karnataka regarding the Congress government. That is why Congress is being compelled to change its Chief Minister there," he said.

The remarks formed part of a broader section of his speech in which he highlighted recent electoral developments and criticised the Congress party's political approach.

Earlier, PM Modi referred to local body election outcomes in Himachal Pradesh, Haryana, and Punjab, arguing that voters in those states had also delivered adverse verdicts against Congress.

He said the country was increasingly favouring stability, development, and governance over what he termed uncertainty and negativity.

"The country does not like anarchy, uncertainty, and pessimism. India's political landscape was being shaped by public aspirations for development and economic progress," he said.

He argued that citizens increasingly expected governments to focus on infrastructure, connectivity, employment opportunities, and public services.

The Prime Minister contrasted this with what he described as opposition efforts to gain political advantage through criticism and disruption.

Earlier in the day, PM Modi inaugurated and laid foundation stones for projects worth Rs 18,800 crore in Surat and reviewed industrial operations in Hazira.

He highlighted infrastructure projects, including the Vadodara-Mumbai Expressway, connectivity initiatives in tribal districts, and healthcare investments such as a new ESIC hospital.

Towards the conclusion of his address, PM Modi argued that India had entered a period defined by ambition and confidence rather than pessimism.

"India has moved far beyond negativity. The citizens of India are full of dreams, full of resolve, and committed to transforming that resolve into achievement," he noted.

He said the country's development goals could be achieved if governments and citizens worked together with determination, adding that public aspirations were becoming the driving force behind national progress.

It's ironic that PM Modi is talking about change in Karnataka when his own party has had three chief ministers in the state in five years! But yes, the Congress government there has been a mess. They are too busy fighting among themselves to focus on development. The people of Karnataka deserve better. 😤

Actually, from what I've read, the dissatisfaction in Karnataka is more about infighting within Congress than anything else. The development promises have been largely forgotten. Modi might be using this to score political points, but the underlying issues are real. Congress needs to get its act together.

As a Kannadiga, I can tell you the anger is real. The Congress government promised 5 guarantees but they're struggling to implement any properly. Meanwhile, the price of everything is going up. PM Modi may be from the opposition party, but he's speaking facts about public sentiment here. Change is needed, but will it happen? 🤔

I think Modi is being a bit disingenuous here. Yes, there is anger, but that's true for almost every state government right now—including BJP-ruled ones. The real question is whether the change in CM will actually improve things or just be another political game. People want development, not drama.

Modi's speech about 'anarchy and uncertainty' is spot on for Congress. They can't even manage their own party, let alone a state. Karnataka has so much potential, but the current government is wasting it on internal politics. We need a leader who actually works for the people, not just for their own chair.
