"President deeply cares about India-US relationship": US Envoy

US Ambassador meets President Trump, highlights care for India-US ties amid high-level talks between Modi and Trump on West Asia security.

"The President deeply cares about the relationship between the U.S. and India! - Sergio Gor"

Washington DC, April 1

US Ambassador to India, Sergio Gor on Tuesday met US President Donald Trump and said that the President deeply cares about India-US relationship.

"Back in the U.S. for a few days. First stop, meeting with our GREAT President in the White House. The President deeply cares about the relationship between the U.S. and India!"

The meeting comes as amid intensifying global efforts to secure vital energy corridors, PM Narendra Modi held a high-level telephonic conversation with US President Donald Trump on March 24 to discuss the prevailing conflict in West Asia. The dialogue comes at a critical juncture as regional tensions continue to impact global energy markets and maritime security.

In a post on X, PM Modi detailed the diplomatic exchange, stating, "Received a call from President Trump and had a useful exchange of views on the situation in West Asia. India supports de-escalation and restoration of peace at the earliest. Ensuring that the Strait of Hormuz remains open, secure and accessible is essential for the whole world. We agreed to stay in touch regarding efforts towards peace and stability."

US envoy Sergio Gor earlier confirmed the exchange, noting that the dialogue focused on the ongoing situation, "including the importance of keeping the Strait of Hormuz open".

On March 28, Gor held talks with the US Secretary of State Marco Rubio in France for the G7 Ministerial Meetings.

In a post on X, he said, "Glad to have joined US Secretary of State Marco Rubio in France for the G7 Ministerial Meetings. Productive discussions with our allies and partners."

Meanwhile, the US Embassy in India on Friday shared a quote by President Trump who praised PM Modi. It said. "Our amazing relationship with India will be even stronger going forward. Prime Minister Modi and I are two people that get things done, something that cannot be said for most. - President Donald J. Trump"

New Delhi and Washington continue with their consistent high-level interactions.

Good to see the engagement, but actions speak louder than words. We've heard "deep care" before. Let's see tangible outcomes in trade, technology sharing, and support for India's permanent UNSC seat. The relationship must be mutually beneficial, not just symbolic.

PM Modi and President Trump both have a "get things done" attitude. This is a positive sign for dealing with global instability. Stability in West Asia is directly linked to petrol prices in India. Jai Hind!

As someone living in Delhi, I appreciate the diplomatic efforts. However, I hope our leadership also prioritizes strengthening ties with our immediate neighbors and regional forums like BIMSTEC. A balanced foreign policy is key.

The US needs India as a counterweight in Asia. We should leverage this position wisely. The focus should be on technology transfer, especially in defense and semiconductors, not just warm words. Let's get the iCET moving faster!
