The Indian Coast Guard on Sunday thanked Prime Minister Narendra Modi for his wishes on the occasion of the 50th Raising Day.

In a post on X, the official handle of the Indian Coast Guard reposted the Prime Minister's message letter, and captioned the post saying, "The Hon'ble Prime Minister of #India, Shri Narendra Modi, extended his warm wishes to @IndiaCoastGuard on the occasion of 50th raising day. #IndianCoastGuardDay2026 #WeProtect @PMOIndia"

The Prime Minister, in his letter to the Coast Guard, expressed "immense pride" on the occasion and underscored their role as "a vigilant protector" of the nation's maritime interests, describing the forces as the "cornerstone of safety in Indian waters." He noted that the Coast Guard's efforts go beyond securing borders to sustaining the lives and livelihoods of sea-dependent communities.

"It is a moment of immense pride to celebrate the 50% Raising Day of the Bharatiya Tatrakshak. For five decades, the Indian Coast Guard has stood as a vigilant protector, safeguarding our nation's maritime interests with unparalleled dedication and valour. From ensuring maritime security and spearheading disaster response to combating smuggling and preserving our fragile marine ecosystems, the Force has been a cornerstone of safety in Indian waters. Their work not only secures our borders but also sustains the lives and livelihoods of communities that depend on the sea," the Prime Minister wrote in the message.

He further noted the alignment of the Coast Guard's commitment with the national sustainable vision and stated that its role is set to become "more pivotal" in achieving the goal of Viksit Bharat. He described the Coast Guard as "the primary guarantor of stability" with the growth of the Blue Economy and emphasis on trade.

"Furthermore, the Bharatiya Tatrakshak's commitment to environmental stewardship through cleanliness campaigns aligns seamlessly with our national vision for sustainable and pristine coasts. As the nation works towards the creation of a Viksit Bharat, the role of the Bharatiya Tatrakshak is set to become even more pivotal. In an era of the growing importance of the Blue Economy and greater emphasis on trade, the Coast Guard is the primary guarantor of stability," the message noted further.

"From managing the complexities of increased maritime traffic to countering threats like climate-induced disasters, the Coast Guard is at the forefront of India's emergence as a leading maritime player. On this milestone occasion, I extend my heartiest greetings to all Tatrakshaks. May your spirit and commitment continue to power the nation towards a secure and prosperous future," the message concluded.

Heartfelt thanks to all the brave men and women of the ICG. My cousin serves in the Coast Guard, and I've seen firsthand their dedication. From intercepting drug smuggling boats to rescuing fishermen in rough seas, their role is indispensable for a maritime nation like India.

Good to see the PM acknowledging their work. However, I hope this appreciation translates into better infrastructure and more modern equipment for them. We need to invest heavily in our maritime security forces to match our growing Blue Economy ambitions.

The environmental stewardship part is crucial. The beach clean-up drives by the Coast Guard are so important for our coastal ecology. It's more than just security; it's about protecting our natural heritage. Kudos on 50 years!

"Vigilant protector" is the perfect term. Living in a coastal town in Gujarat, we sleep peacefully knowing they are out there. Their role in disaster response during the last cyclone was phenomenal. Salute to the Tatrakshaks!

As India's trade and maritime traffic grows, their role becomes even more critical. They are the first line of defense on our seas. Wishing them all the best on this golden jubilee. May they continue to serve with the same zeal.
