Kolkata, June 19

Before his two-day visit to West Bengal starting Saturday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday made social media posts in Bengali, elaborating on the details of his visit.

He said he would be present in West Bengal for various programmes on June 20 and 21. He noted that June 20 was particularly noteworthy, as it marked West Bengal Day.

The event will take place in Tarakeswar, Hooghly district, a location steeped in heritage for its association with Shyama Prasad Mukherjee and his efforts to preserve West Bengal's culture. In Tarakeswar, various developmental initiatives will be inaugurated.

In his post, PM Modi said that the 23rd instalment of PM-KISAN would be disbursed from Tarakeswar, benefiting farmers across India.

He added that major Central Government schemes related to agriculture would also be launched, including Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana, Agri Stack as part of the Digital Agriculture Mission, National Mission on Natural Farming, and Pradhan Mantri Dhan-Dhanya Krishi Yojana. These, he said, would benefit the hardworking farmers of West Bengal.

PM Modi further stated that on June 21, he would attend a programme in Kolkata on the occasion of International Yoga Day.

He added that after the Yoga Day programme, he would join another event where three warships built with indigenous design, INS Dunagiri, INS Samshodhaka, and INS Agrya, would be launched. He said these would strengthen national security and reflect India's resolve towards self-reliance in the defence sector.

Well done Modi ji! Writing in Bengali shows he's connecting with local culture. The PM-KISAN installment and all those agriculture schemes will be a boon for our farmers. And those three indigenous warships being launched from Kolkata – that's our India shining! Made in India, protecting India. 🇮🇳

While the Bengali posts are a nice touch, let's not forget that the state government and centre have been at loggerheads over many issues. Actions speak louder than Facebook statuses. The PM should ensure timely release of funds for Bengal's development rather than just announcing schemes from the stage. Just my two paise.

The Yoga Day programme and warship launch are both happening in Kolkata – that's a smart way to combine soft power and hard power. The Agni-class warships are a big step for our navy. But I do wish the PM would also address the state's specific issues like the Gorkhaland movement or the tea garden crisis. A missed opportunity for dialogue?

Modi ji in Bengali! Chalo, that's a good sign. The PM-KISAN scheme has genuinely helped many small farmers in my village, so any expansion is welcome. The Tarakeswar venue is symbolic – Shyama Prasad Mukherjee was a true patriot who fought for Bengal's unity with India. Let's hope the visit leads to real development and not just political mudslinging.

As someone with family in Bengal, I see Modi trying to bridge cultural gaps. The Bengali posts feel authentic, not just cheap politics. However, I'd like to
