Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday said that the transfer of the Fast Patrol Vessel Lespwar to the Seychelles Coast Guard marks another important milestone in the growing India-Seychelles partnership in defence and maritime security.

"Took part in the handing-over ceremony of the Fast Patrol Vessel Lespwar, ambulances and utility vehicles for SDF at the Seychelles Coast Guard Base with President Dr. Patrick Herminie," PM Modi wrote on X.

"The transfer of the Fast Patrol Vessel Lespwar to the Seychelles Coast Guard marks another important milestone in the growing India-Seychelles partnership in defence and maritime security. It is also the latest in a series of capability-building initiatives that reflect India's steadfast commitment to supporting the security priorities of Seychelles," he added.

Along with the Made-in-India FPV, PM Modi also handed over six ambulances, 10 utility vehicles and five laser radial boats to strengthen Seychelles' maritime surveillance and Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ) priorities.

"India remains proud to stand shoulder-to-shoulder with Seychelles as a trusted partner, working together to deepen our enduring friendship and strengthen our collective maritime capabilities," PM Modi highlighted on X.

PM Modi arrived in Seychelles earlier on Saturday to attend the golden jubilee celebrations of the country's National Day as the Guest of Honour and further strengthen bilateral cooperation.

This marks PM Modi's second state visit to Seychelles. Earlier this year, President Herminie undertook a state visit to India.

"India remains one of Seychelles' closest and most valued development partners, supporting numerous infrastructure, healthcare, education and community development initiatives while working closely with Seychelles to promote peace, security and stability in the Indian Ocean region," the Office of the President of Seychelles stated ahead of PM Modi's arrival.

According to the office, PM Modi's visit reflects the longstanding friendship and enduring partnership between Seychelles and India, which have enjoyed diplomatic relations since Seychelles attained Independence in 1976.

While this is good for diplomacy, I hope we're not overstretching our resources. India itself has many maritime security needs in the Indian Ocean. Can't help but wonder if we're prioritizing foreign aid over domestic infrastructure. Just a thought.

This is smart geopolitics. China has been increasing its influence in the Indian Ocean region. By helping Seychelles with maritime security, India is ensuring our own strategic interests are protected too. Win-win situation!

PM Modi's second visit to Seychelles shows consistency in foreign policy. From handing over patrol vessels to ambulances - it's not just about military cooperation but humanitarian support too. India truly is a Vishwabandhu! 🌍

I've been following India-Seychelles relations for years. This isn't just politics - Seychelles has a large Indian diaspora and deep cultural ties. Happy to see our government nurturing these bonds. But we need more such initiatives in the Pacific too.

"Made in India" patrol vessel for Seychelles - this also showcases our shipbuilding capabilities. Good for defence exports and foreign relations. Hopefully, this creates goodwill and long-term strategic partnerships in the Indian Ocean.
