Piyush Chawla praises Yashasvi Jaiswal, Vaibhav Sooryavanshi for their performance in RR's 27-run win over MI

Piyush Chawla praises Yashasvi Jaiswal's 77* and Vaibhav Sooryavanshi's explosive 39 as Rajasthan Royals defeat Mumbai Indians by 27 runs.

"Scoring 77 runs in an 11-over game highlights the kind of impact he can have. - Piyush Chawla"

Mumbai, April 8

Former Indian cricketer Piyush Chawla lauded the Rajasthan Royals opening batters Yashasvi Jaiswal and Vaibhav Sooryavanshi after they helped their team secure a 27-run win over the Mumbai Indians on Tuesday at the Barsapara Cricket Stadium in Guwahati.

In a match that was reduced to 11 overs per side due to rain, Jaiswal and Sooryavanshi powered Rajasthan Royals to a first-innings total of 150/3 with a 30-ball 80-run partnership. While Jaiswal remained not out with a 32-ball 77 runs, including 10 boundaries and four sixes, Sooryavanshi gave RR a headstart with a 14-ball 39.

Speaking on Star Sports' 'Amul Cricket Live', JioStar expert Piyush Chawla said that Jaiswal looked confident from the start and dominated the innings against MI, and made a significant impact with his 77 runs in the shortened 11-over match. "Sometimes a player simply enjoys batting against a particular opposition, and that confidence shows. Yashasvi Jaiswal looked assured from the moment he came in and set the tone from the very first over. The way he took charge of the innings was impressive. Scoring 77 runs in an 11-over game highlights the kind of impact he can have," Chawla said. Speaking about Vaibhav Suryavanshi's innings, Piyush Chawla said that the 15-year-old's innings stood out because he performed impressively against a strong Mumbai Indians bowling attack featuring top bowlers like Trent Boult and Jasprit Bumrah.

"Performing against the Mumbai Indians is always special because of the quality of their bowling attack, with world-class bowlers like Trent Boult and Jasprit Bumrah. When a batter takes on bowlers of that calibre and delivers an innings like Vaibhav Suryavanshi did, it naturally stands out and gets people talking," Chawla said.

After RR posted 150/3 in 11 overs, their bowling line-up comprising Nandre Burger (2/21), Sandeep Sharma (2/25), Jofra Archer (1/17 in 2 overs) and Ravi Bishnoi (2/26), despite the fire-power possessed by MI's batting line-up, helped the 2008 IPL champions restrict MI to just 123/9 in the rain-truncated match and win by 27 runs.

Vaibhav Sooryavanshi is only 15! That's incredible. To come in and smash 39 off 14 balls in your first big game, that too against MI... the kid has nerves of steel. Hope they manage his career well and don't put too much pressure on him.

As an MI fan, this was painful to watch. Our bowling was taken apart. Full credit to Jaiswal though, he played some outstanding shots. But seriously, 150 in 11 overs? Our death bowling needs serious work. Hardik's captaincy choices were also questionable.

The partnership was the key. 80 runs in just 30 balls completely changed the momentum. It's not just about individual brilliance but how they built it together. Jaiswal anchoring and the youngster providing the explosive start. Perfect T20 combo.

Piyush Chawla is spot on. Performing against MI's attack is a real test. Boult with the new ball and Bumrah at the death is as tough as it gets. For a 15-year-old to come out swinging like that... waah! Talent hai is desh mein.

While the batting was fantastic, let's not forget the RR bowlers. Restricting that MI lineup to 123 in 11 overs, even with the pressure of a big total, is a great effort. Burger and Bishnoi were excellent. Complete team performance.
