Over 33.9 lakh beneficiaries receive social security pension as MP govt transfers Rs 203cr

Bhopal, June 25

The Madhya Pradesh government on Thursday transferred Rs 203.56 crore as social security pension to more than 33.92 lakh beneficiaries across the state, including senior citizens, widows, differently-abled persons and other eligible recipients under various welfare schemes.

Chief Minister Mohan Yadav released the pension amount for May through direct benefit transfer during a virtual programme from his office, ensuring that the funds reached beneficiaries' bank accounts in a single transaction.

The monthly pension disbursement forms part of the state's social security framework aimed at providing financial assistance to vulnerable sections of society.

Beneficiaries from different districts, including senior citizens and women, participated in the programme through virtual platforms.

Addressing the gathering, Chief Minister Yadav said the welfare of the poor, the elderly and the differently-abled remains a key priority of the state government.

"Social security pensions are not merely financial assistance. They represent the government's commitment to providing dignity, respect and a sense of security to the poor, the elderly and differently-abled citizens. We consider every beneficiary a member of our family," he said.

The Chief Minister said the state government is working to ensure that no poor family or vulnerable individual feels neglected.

Referring to the principle of Antyodaya, he said welfare schemes are intended to reach those who need support the most.

CM Yadav also underlined the importance of caring for senior citizens, saying that respect for the elderly and weaker sections has always been a part of India's social and cultural values.

"The blessings of elders are like shade in the scorching heat. Serving senior citizens and supporting the most vulnerable sections of society is not only a responsibility but also our moral duty," he said in a statement issued to the press.

During the programme, the Chief Minister also highlighted ongoing welfare initiatives of the Centre and the state government.

He said schemes related to food security, housing, healthcare, drinking water and clean cooking fuel had contributed significantly to improving the lives of poor families.

It's refreshing to see state governments prioritizing senior citizens. The 'Antyodaya' principle resonates deeply. Hope other states take similar measures.

While pension disbursement is good, I wish the amount was higher. ₹600 per month for elderly is barely enough for medicines. Still, better than nothing.

Direct Benefit Transfer has been a game-changer. No more agents taking cuts. My aunt in Gwalior gets her widow pension directly. Bahut accha hai. 😊

The CM's words about elders being family are touching. In our culture, we always say 'bada bole to bada'. Hope this continues even after elections.

Over 33 lakh beneficiaries is no small number. I've worked with NGOs in rural India and know how crucial this money is for widows and disabled persons. Kudos.

Good initiative but need to improve awareness. Many elderly in villages don't even know they are eligible. Also, simplify the application process.
